Also, the Sti is geared more towards people with the inner thrill seeker in mind, yet they swapped out the race style seats for something that looks more comfortable rather than something that is going to hold you in the seats while taking a corner hard.

Chuck33079 03-07-2014 07:09 AM

They've always had crap seats. Only the Japanese market got the good ones. The previous ones didn't hold you in place for ****, they just looked good. The holy grail for USDM Subie seats were the 02-03 seats. They actually had good bolstering, the cloth just looked like crap. I sold my STi seats for a set very shortly into my ownership of it.

The new seats provide additional bolstering and holds you more in place than before. The only reason why they seemed to be race style seats was due to the fixed head rest. Subaru claims the new adjustable head rest increases safety. I do feel just from pics that these seats are better bolstered. I also do agree that its geared towards the inner thrill seeker. Sucks that you drove an STi that was hellaflushed. That ruins the entire point of the STi.

Oh and they raised the wing to increase rearward visibility. That's probably the most polarizing feature, but no one can argue that its functional. The WRX has positive lift at 100mph while the STi passes the threshold and has negative lift at 100mph.

I wonder how the hatch will look. My guess is that they will introduce it along with a new engine in 3 years.

That's a good thing. The one on my 04 was a precisely the right height to cover up a light bar on a car following you, so you had no idea if the car behind you was a cop.:rofl2:

Subaru keeps claiming the hatch sold poorly, so they won't bring it back. I call BS, but I won't be surprised if we don't see a hatch version of this STi ever. Especially because the "hatch" version of the base Impreza looks more like a Forester than an Impreza...

XiP 03-07-2014 05:51 PM

I wish they made this with automatic transmission

It goes in cycles. People complain about not getting a hatch, then they complain about the hatch.

I'm glad it doesn't. Sports cars are meant to have manual transmissions. Torque converters ruin things and dual clutch boxes are too expensive and often fragile.

They should have both options though, it'd be nice to get one as a daily driver but if my dog is a messing around in the car and I have to shift gears things could get messy lol

Footloose301 03-07-2014 06:49 PM

I hate the hatch look. I didn't even acknowledge the STi until the sedan came back out.

Stock they are pretty meh, but I have seen some with a nice front lip, wheels, and a drop that looked great, and they have so much space.

A dual clutch would have been nice

The WRX is offered with a CVT. There is also the Evo X MR if you want a dual clutch. I am glad this type of car has a MT.

But... performance dual clutches in cars under 40K are normally garbage. My Evo X MR dual clutch was horrible and couldn't get fixed by Mitsubishi (or they didn't want to fix it). I was bone stock and the clutches would still slip, and when it did, the car felt like it hit a tree. Its hard to explain how it feels, but let me assure you it doesn't feel good.

saber 03-08-2014 06:29 PM

lol, when my clutch goes it's going to be upgraded. the WRX is good, but totally agree in that it doesn't really deliver high performance.

Chuck33079 03-08-2014 06:32 PM

Yeah, a good dual clutch would push the cost of the car into a segment where 300hp just isn't going to cut it.

Holy **** anyone been over on the iwsti forum? It's not a car forum. It's a teenager filled internet battle royal of dimwits vs asshats where trolls are trolling trolls who are trolling themselves. Worst site I've ever been on. Meatspin.com is a better site than that. Man it's making me reluctant to leave the Z!

Anyone curious about meatspin... It's best you don't investigate, or at the very least, be alone when you do :roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2:

It's ******* ridiculous, even the EVO forums are better.

iwsti.com exists to make NASIOC look better by comparison.

I finally got to see an STI in person tonight. A sale man from Audi was trading in his plasma blue 2014 with 1800 miles on it for a 2015 white STI.

I will say that it does look much better and more aggressive in person. I'm digging it. However, I test drove a 2011 STI sedan almost a year ago and was not impressed with the power so I'm guessing this will be about the same. It should really really have 350-400hp stock at the crank to appeal to more people like myself.

When you drove it, did you put it in "sport sharp" mode and disable the TCS? It makes a huge change in the character of the car. The power is still not overwhelming, but the throttle response is worlds better. And with a proper launch, the awd springs you forward very quickly. It's also got shorter gears and a lower top end than the z.

Footloose301 04-09-2014 08:50 PM

I was doing 30 and 40 rolls down Metro Pkwy with the sales man beside me lol and yes, Sport Sharp mode.

Just checking. Some folks drive it in regular sport, and most salesmen lack the knowledge to point their customers in the right direction

BlackZeda 04-13-2014 10:06 PM

Yay, it's as lame as every other lesbomile I see every two seconds in Colorado.

Firebase99 04-14-2014 10:11 AM

I was reading Car and Driver and they had the segment "Old vs New", putting brand new "lesser" cars up against the top of the line equivalent for an older model, 86 ferrari vs new C7, etc. 2014 WRX had a 0 to 60 time of 4.8 seconds, 1/4 in 13.6, .98g skidpad. They tested the Sti, same issue, at 0 to 60 in 5.1 1/4 in 13.8, the skid pad may have been slightly higher, i forgot. I like the looks of the WRX better too.

lemon-fresh 04-14-2014 04:01 PM

Yup, 2014 wrx was faster 0-60. For the 2015 wrx this is not the case, which I assume is due to gearing.

I'm still interested in the new STI, they basically improved everything aside from the engine and kept the car at the same price point. If I had time to wait a couple years before purchasing an AWD performance car I can use all year around (sadly I don't) I would definitely see what subie does to the STI in the coming years.
