But having driven both, the cayman s was faster. And the 2014 is even faster than that.

Also, anyone can suck at driving fast. Driver makes a bigger difference than car when the cars are that close in terms of power to weight.

This was in a straight line for abour a mile an a half on an empty freeway so it can't be too hard to mash a gas pedal. It's a different story on the twisties

Well you're a disgrace to the 370Z for going at high speeds on the southern california freeways trying to prove you're faster than a porshe..

Its too bad the California Highway Patrol didnt get you for a Felony and impound you.

Ok sue me for sharing what i'm sure most of you have done at one time or another in your lifetime. Don't deny it either. I'm not condoning it, I just came correct about it to prove a point and posted that I don't street race. How can someone not be excited right when they buy their first z?

So let the first person with no sin cast the first stone or GTFO.

Anyway, it was to make a point but whatever. And I do NOT condone street racing.

There is a NO Street Racing/Kills Posts rule.

Thanks..

Really Jaguar?

ill stick with my 33 K base 370z......PLUS yours looks like mine...copy cats....
:tiphat:

However that's a real 340 hp as opposed to our nowhere close to real 332 hp. Supercharged v6 in Jag also makes healthy torque number way down low in rev range. Suspect supercharged car is also vastly easier to tune to higher output than a Z. No comparing two. One is a cheap entry level sports car and other is luxury sports car. Having sat in the Jag its completely different experience than a Z. $70k seems about right.

I'd bet that's an underrated 340 as well.

A base car will be at a pretty big HP disadvantage but I would bet a good steak that most people after driving both cars for a week would take the underpowered car as it provides a better driving experience.

The Z is:

1. Porkier then Kardashian calves
2. Lacks steering feel (its good, not great)
3. Ridiculously sensitive on/off TCS for a sports car

You are not going to get around the fact that a big honking 6 is hanging over the front axle vs a mid-engine car: tough to fight the physics there.

I seem to be in the minority on this site, but I wanted the Z to be a return to its roots, lighter, fun to toss, and absolute power not a requirement as its a street car. Heck I had hoped the Z33 was a NA I-6, 250 HP, 3000 lbs. Boy was I waaay of base on that. If you are going to charge 35-45K for it, then it should have better interior for its class. Missed that too.

Perhaps its hard for Nissan to do with the amount of platform sharing that may be mandated by corporate management. Driving the Z, I feel like it is a good GT car that wants to be a sports car. Driving the 987, I feel like I am driving a sports car that just wants to be pushed harder.

I m a life long porsche owner. Have owned and driven several 986/987 Boxsters and Caymans. Raced a Boxster too. Cayman S to me is a very boring car. It makes terrible low end power as well. Way to expensive for what it is in my opinion.

With a few simple mods 370z is just as fast if not faster than a a cayman S on track. In my opinion I enjoy way 370 handles better than a Cayman. My Nismo is stockish form ate up Cayman S on track. Now it blows them away. My 370z is closer to GT3 performance now at less than a 1/3 rd the cost.

And cayman s even out of box requires some mods to make them decent track car so youre going to spend money over base price to get the car to work properly on track. I'd much rather spend mod money on a $30k car than on $70k car.

I don't think Nissan missed. Have you driven a Cayman S? I have, several times. It feels similar to the z during normal driving. And the z hides it's weight very well because it has tons of grip. I've never taken the z or Cayman to the track so I can't compare the 2 there. Bnd the Cayman's cheap interior (not the new 981 based cayman) isn't as nice as the Z's IMO (one of the biggest complaints of the 997/981 based cars, especially the cheesy cup holders) but hey, everyone's entitled to their own opinion :)

Give Nissan credit, they make the GT-R and it beat the 911 turbo (which was the performance goal) around the Nurburgring.

I own a Z and a Cayman, so I have the experience part well covered.

Interior plastics on the 987 are better then the Z. Mine is lightly optioned so no full leather etc...which brings it up market (for $$$ of course). If you want to look at little things, how about that ugly plastic ebrake holder on the Z? Exactly :)

From a big item perspective, the respective traction control systems are night and day. The Z's is abrupt and really no fun. Other cars (including the Porsche) have multiple levels of intervention, and allow for some light wheel spin and fun, some even having multiple settings. What a concept :)

To me, steering feel is pretty immediately noticed. Turn in, weight, ratio all seem to be right on the Porsche. The Z will turn: there is a lot of grip with the big rubber, but you have to set the turn differently and it doesn't rotate the same way (and why should it: engine up front).

I look for a car that feels great: I don't care about 'smoking' anyone. If I did, lots of V8's out there for less change.

Please don't read into what I am saying: the Z has lots of pluses. I just think Nissan fell short in a few key areas and when you compare the Z to a 987 or 981 for feel and sports car fun, the gap widens.

What Nissan did with the GT-R has absolutely no relevance to the Z car. The GT-R is a > 100K car with turbos, an expensive transmission, AWD, more computers then the space shuttle. Great engineering? Absolutely. Tossable? Not a verb most would use. :stirthepot:
