You can't be politically correct all the time. Lighten up you will live longer. If anyone takes it that serious then I would begin to worry. We are talking about cars. If one doesn't suit your taste good news there are many to try that may tickle your fancy.

The GT86 is an overpriced car with a weak 4 banger engine. It has the crappiest interior I have ever witnessed. They purposely put low grip tires on it to raise the "thrill" factor. The only reason why it has gotten the attention that is has is because it is a "cheap" rear drive car with a "well sorted" suspension for the equipment that it comes with. A rarity in the modern age.

But that is also the problem. It really isn't that cheap. And what happens when you put real tires on it? All you end up having is a cheap car with a suspension that far outpaces its engine. There goes your fun factor.

Sales person: hesitates, then says "I'll call your client for you from the back".

That's right... I can't find myself spending $30k on a N/A 4-banger. Remember the Mugen Civic? Don't get me started on that. The only high dollar N/A 4-bangers I thought were cool back then were the S2000 and the ITR.

I wanted to see how fast a M6 was but he appeared to be laughing and refused to play with me after about 5 seconds so I sauntered back behind him forever wondering how bad an M6 would beat me. Feel my pain.

I don't think Clarkson hated on it because of reliability more like because hes comparing it to the more expensive refined Z4, of course thats going to be more comfortable and classier than the Z but it was a stupid comparison. I dont think Z4 buyers would even consider the Z.

So me and the wife are driving around looking for some grub. (She didn't feel like cookin' last nite.) Short story, Shorter!!

I'm doing about 30mph, this one light goes from green to yellow to red superfast and I was real close to it. I could have slammed the brake but I was really close to the corner and the yellow just hit so I knew I had 2 seconds. What to do? I took the most bad azz right the Z can take and I must have looked kool doin it b4 the light actually went red? Because some Dork azz cornball in a BRZ, I guess observed my abrupt and roll free turn (Thank you Eibach & Swift) and thought Ooooh, potential challenge...
Well my light turned red fast but his green took some time for him to move. On that block I was cruising about 42mph, when this Azzhole in a BRZ does about 65-70mph so he can make a dramatic ricer fly-by.

Ok so I am sooo.... ugh NOT impressed. He' needed 7450rpm's for his cheezy ricer fly-by??? Do it to a Civic rice boy. When you can beat a gencoupe 2.0's around a track? WHICH THEY CANT. Then challenge 3.8's and v6 mustangs, when you beat them, Then challenge Z's you lower life-form.

We hit a light, I'm on the far right, he's on the far left. Light turns green and traffic is in front of us. He tries to make some fancy moves around cars and goes fast, gets about half a block ahead. Then dramatically slows down So when the light turns red we're next to each other...

I guess he thought his Greddy intake and exhaust was good for 100hp. Mind you he's on those weak azz stock tires and his car is Dirtier than Governor Christie's Shyt stained drawz...

I was so annoyed. I was supposed to go straight and and then get on the highway to another area where there are restaurants. Made a right instead and dealt with street traffic so I didn't have to be next to that cornball...

That was my first BRZ, that had come around me acting like a Civic driver. You expect it from a Civic. But from a BRZ owner. You want to get out the car and pimp-slap him around like the lil bytch he is...
"Where's mah munneyy ho-azz Bytch. Gimmie that toy car and I'll sell it at it's real value.... $20 grand. lol

Thats my first BRZ challenge story.

I don't think it matters what you are driving, there will ALWAYS be someone trying to prove that their car is better than yours. In 94, I purchased a Pontiac Firebird Formula and within 1 mile from the dealership on the ride home, I had a Mustang GT pull up next to me at a stop light. When the light turned green, he took off like the cops were after him. I looked at my wife and said, "I told you that was going to happen by a Mustang" and I was right. This doesn't happen much any more, but I had to teach a Porsche Boxter a lesson (with the same Formula) when he tried to accelerate past me at a toll road exit. He thought that his car was "bada$$", but when I walked by him, he was like . Back then it was the Pontiac, and now it's the Z. Next time it will be whatever else I have. At my age, stuff like this doesn't bother me anymore as I just let them think they are cool. All I can say now is :gtfo2:

UNKNOWN, you did the right thing by not engaging him. Regardless of the make and model of car, guys like this are itching for trouble at the expense of random innocent drivers and pedestrians.

It is also twice as funny when the car in question is not as fast in a straight line. This is no knock on the BRZ, but bone stock it's not winning many drag races. That's just not what the car was built for. It was built for the twisties.

That's because the Z4 is a girl's car :stirthepot:

seriously though, the Z4 is nice, but it's not that impressive. I'd rather go for the 3 series. Not to mention BMW's are crap in terms of reliability. They're great new cars, but I always hesistate buying a used one. Too many bad stories.

Agreed. If the Z is GT sports? Then the Z4 is straight GT. It's a smooth little, great handling car. But the Z makes for a more entertaining and serious feeling sports car.

Eh, from what I've seen, it really depends on the model. Each one has their own issues. Earlier versions of i-drive are an absolute nightmare.

IMO, the 135 as well as the 335 is an excellent car, especially the earlier models with the straight-six twin turbo. Forged internals from the factory, completely bulletproof engine.

If I remember right, Clarkson didn't HATE the 370. He hated the 350. His comments on the 370 were that he liked the performance, but it was too rough around the edges for his old British arse. (Engine noise, stiff ride) That's what a lot of senior citizens say about it. If you're used to driving around in a Benz, then yeah, the Z is going to be like driving a box truck in terms of comfort.

I agree that the Z4 is kind of a nancy car. It's BMW's Miata. May be a great driving car, but it definitely lacks macho appeal.

cheshirecat 03-01-2013 11:58 AM

I would say the VQ is definitely a harsh engine up top- not just for senior citizens, but for the motoring world in general.

It's an impressive mill, but smooth up top it is not.

I raced against a BRZ at Sears Point. Yes it is a good handling car but not anything to worry about in our 370Z's. The BRZ often held up traffic, but was by no means the slowest car on the track. That went to a Mini Cooper.

I have film somewhere of this event.
