You could also look at new Gen Coupe vs used G37 coupe.

The Gen Coup and G37 may not always cross shopped but it all depends on where your high and low limits are when concerning price.

When I got my Z the Gen Coup was the low end in price while the G37 was the high end. I also looked at the 2010 mustang and 2009 Camaro.

I'm in the same boat as these guys. When I shop for cars, I look at everything, across price ranges. I test drive just about everything, too.

Its funny... One time i was harassed on the forum for taking 8 test drives on 5 vehicles before i purchased my G. I was told i was wasting salesguys time. I went back twice on three. The Z, Camaro and genesis coupe 3.8... I ended up with a G37s because i had gotten an $7,000 cash back incentive on the G37s with invoice pricing. Couldn't beat that. 1 year n some later. I was in a 09 370Z. The Z performance kept calling me. The Gencoupe and G BOTH felt equally inferior to the Z as far as driving enjoyment. The other car I had tested was the mustang GT. At the time it was a 4.6, it was laughable compared to every other car on the list. Went back and tested the 5.0. The changes impressed me greatly, but not enough to not purchase a Z.
The only cars i can consider in-line with a Z right now (performance/fun-wise) is the Evo and 135i.

I just deviated from the point but... I'd rather test everything twice if i really like it. After I crashed the 09 Z, I was able to add the 5.0, Evo, Porsche Cayman(used) to the list. Test driving cars is the best research. It's crazy to think that someone would actually think i'm wasting salesguys time... lol. I look at it as making sure i spend approx. $40k wisely.

:iagree:

Unless of course you get test drives like I did when I went to try out the 5.0. Scared the salesman coming out of the driveway so it was just down the street and back. :shakes head:

He had the nerve to tell me it was too much car for me (not that I did anything wrong or was anywhere close to losing control of it). Was a good thing I never planned on actually buying it other wise I would have been pissed.

Well here's where you and I absolutely agree! Be picky, drive everything you're considering, make the most informed choice possible, because it is a big investment.

Korean products are catching up in a lot of industries... notable example is in electronics. Automobile industry is trending that way too. Maybe 10 years from now people will see Hyundai as having the same build quality as Toyota, Mercedes, etc. or maybe even surpass them

bigsix 01-05-2013 02:25 PM

Yea, that's possible. Both Kia and Hyundai seem to 'copy' design aspects from other car companies and compile them together for their designs.

I haven't been in or driven a new Korean car. Are their engines/drivetrains very nice ?

its more than just possible..

The kia Optima is one of my fav cars to drive int hat segment. Despite basically being the same as the sonata, its nicer. The sonata's engine noise is a bit much. Not as well insulated.

The New Santa Fe is also really nice right behind the Flex.

The problem is still peoples perceptions. My 2006 Sonata v6 has never been to the dealership for issues, nor has it had issues. 100,670 miles over 7 years. Still smooth and responsive and everything works.

My 2003 Tiburon v6 i had, never had a problem that i didnt create by messing up something (i learned a hella lot by ******* up that car)

For the people who say they will "NEVER" buy a korean car.. are kinda retarded. There was a time people said that about honda, toyota, nissan. Look at them now. Always have to keep an open mind and make a unbiased decision. Hell, soon we might be looking at chinese and Indian cars too.

b1adesofcha0s 01-05-2013 02:49 PM

Lol I used to say I would never get an American car, now the 2 cars I want next are both American :icon17:

No...fortunately, I been able to get at least a 5 mile test drive. The Z was the best test drive because they just gave me the keys. I had he Z a little over an hour.
