SCT Tunes New ST - 253whp, 323wtq @2400 RPM - Focus Fanatics
This car makes insane torque. Light hatch, FWD, gobs of torque. It's a highway roll monster. I'd love to see one against a 370z. I'm sure youtube will have tons of "focus st vs..." videos soon. |
We are waiting for some more companies to finish their development before we settle on parts for hers. She wants intake, cbe, and tune at the least. Don't know if we'll do a downpipe or not yet.
Torrie from Unleashed Tuning has his development car up to 313/35x right now but I don't remember all he's done to get there. |

Z might lose to 60 meby 70... I think by 80+ it will come out ahead. Not to mention the experience will be much better in the 370Z :)
|
I don't even know why we'd make that comparison. I'd see how it stacks up against MS3, GTI, WRX, etc.

I want to see what kind of numbers it will put down with intake, CBE, and tune.
And then with a catted downpipe and with an off road downpipe. Still waiting on Cobb to finish their development. Steeda has a CAI in development but no word on when it will be ready for sale. |

Any idea why they only tracked to 6K on the Focus? Redline is 6.5K right? |
Yep redline is 6500.
Here is Unleashed Tuning's stock vs. tune graph: http://www.fastpartsnetwork.com/images/fst1.jpg |
tune looks great. looks like the 6K valley goes away too
|
Yep. Just waiting on Cobb so we have someone to compare it to!

if you're like me you'll never pick a tune :roflpuke2: |

So far our favorite exhaust for the car is the Magnaflow CBE. Best sound of everything out right now... it's sort of a funky sounding engine so it requires a good bit of sound tuning. Can't just fab something up in a muffler shop and sound good. |
I was just looking at all the factory tours of all the super sports cars on the front page and I thought of this enlightening video...

A huge difference in regards to Torque over HP usually indicates a gutless motor without the turbo. Torque gets you to the race, HP wins it.

I sat in the ST... Nissan could take a lesson in seating for the Z from the ST. While I find the Z seats to be very good. The ST has true sports car seats that are befitting of way more serious sports cars than the Focus. Yet most serious sports cars fail where the ST succeeds.
Interesting. |

Looks like the turbo is running out of breath. That much tq down low is kinda useless except for gas mileage. Definitely has promise though.
|
It's a fun car. I just hope Ferodo offers DS2500 pads for it soon.
|
I've actually been considering moving to a Focus ST in the coming months.
I'm going to have to be commuting a lot more for work, that and I'll likely be moving into a new place/getting married. All of that makes me sort of want to get something a little more practical. I was dead-set on the WRX, but I really do like the interior of the Focus ST. I might wait until this fall, just to see if any more details about the 2015 WRX come out. |
Fiancée went YOLO today and ordered the Cobb Stage 2 kit (AP tuner, intake, and FMIC) and CP-E catback and catted downpipe (so we'll run the Stage 3 tune). She is already SCT tuned now but decided to jump to Cobb for better R&D and support.
Quaife has an LSD out for it now too. |
Is the Ford direct injected? Didn't know if it utilized a cam-driven fuel pump or not. That's the only thing holding me back from dumping some money on Cobb's website for my MS3 (but I should keep that money for Z money... I can't help but be curious about playing with my Mazda some).
CDFP is a fairly expensive mod (labor and part - I don't feel like messing with a fuel pump, but I haven't done research on the actual process yet.) and as it stands it would be a warranty issue for me I think. There is a fuel starvation problem under boost with the MS3 if you do even a stage 1 tune - cobb recommends running safe mode on all their tunes unless you have upgraded your CDFP. |
Yeah it's DI.
|
They might just use a worthwhile CDFP on it then. The Mazda's is weaksauce (part of the reason it falls on its face on the top end - the other is air intake restriction). Unless the focus's is too new and they haven't seen any vulnerabilities with it yet, should rock pretty hard on a Cobb Stage 2.
I'll read up on it as I'm just wildly curious if nothing else. I like the ST a lot. |
AH - so after a quick search, the Ford does used a high pressure cam driven fuel pump similar to the Mazda. The Mazda uses one from Hitachi and the Ford uses a Bosch.
From what a guy on an EcoBoost forum said, the ST's CDFP is set at its maximum threshold just like the Mazda's is. These fuel pumps are set to push out around 1600psi under full boost (pretty nuts), and modification and tuning will require more, which puts the ST in the same modding situation as the Mazda. I'd look into what's available for aftermarket. Sounds like with even a stage 1 tune on an intake you'll run into some moderate fuel starvation problems. |
