I would get the SI, it's a cool nice looking fun little car.. And there are tons of parts out for it in the after market.

Hopeully the ms3 is a better choice...

TURBO

Red370 04-12-2012 07:20 AM

for future upgradeability and best bang for the buck, the MS3 will win every time.

I used to have a MS3. Do not buy it if you plan on modding much beyond a catback. The motors have really bad PCV systems, weak journal bearing turbos and they tend to spark knock a lot. The High Pressure Fuel Pumps are known to lose PSI quickly if boost is raised and can run the motor dangerously lean. I knew six people with aftermarket turbo setups on their cars, all professionally installed/tuned and every single one of them blew their motors due to issues with PVC and crankcase pressure and one guy who didnt upgrade the HPFP.

Safe bet if you get one is to keep the mods minimal, do upgrade the HPFP with the CPE one ($1000!) and upgrade the intercooler if you want to avoid spark knock.

If you leave it stock and get a nice extended warranty, its a fun car for sure. The 08-09's are faster though!

Haven't made any decisions yet as far as the civic and the ms3 the comment above makes me weary to get the Mazda now.... Makes me feel like the civic would be better

'10Anamoly 04-12-2012 09:04 AM

Make no mistake, the MS3 will walk all over the Civic in a race (stock for stock). However, the Civic is a more reliable motor, has a smoother transmission and shifter, etc.

For me, I would consider the Civic and add some supporting mods or a small roots supercharger for a fun ride on a budget.
