2013 Dodge Viper is back

So what do you guys think? Looks a lot like the Gen IV... but may have upwards of 700bhp. I'm glad Chrysler/Dodge decided to keep it V10 as there were rumors last year that the new Viper could possibly have a turbo V8.

I guess its just SRT Viper now, not being called Dodge.

frost 01-24-2012 09:10 PM

{Looks like they really went out of the box to redesign it}

mikey1600 01-24-2012 09:14 PM

^ hahaha

although I've always loved viper's, this was always my dream car growing up always said I would one day buy one :D

WWJD 01-24-2012 09:14 PM

Wish their ACR version will be a bit more street and driver friendly.

GaleForce 01-24-2012 09:17 PM

Meh. I've never fit in them well. They are a beast though!

SMJane_Again 01-24-2012 09:27 PM

Those pictures feel like a test mule to me. There might be some hints as to the next-gen front fascia, hence the cover up front, but the back is the same as the previous-gen. I don't think this is anywhere near what the finished product will be, but then again, how much design $$$ does Fiat want to throw towards an anachronistic flagship sportscar?

MC 01-24-2012 09:28 PM

pretty sure thats just a mule running the new front end to accommodate the engine... i wouldnt expect it to look anything like that at all

:iagree: Yeah, the guys in the Viper forum are saying the same thing.

HKYStormFront 01-24-2012 09:40 PM

yea this^ viper's always been kind of a shop within chrysler. i think they've gone completely independent now, or were talking about it. i still think vipers are some of the coolest cars made, a modern classic.

Pharmacist 01-24-2012 11:07 PM

wow, that "new" viper seems suspiciously similar to the old one. and even has the exact same engine. so all they did was just "tune" an extra 100 hp out of it. not really hard to do with 8.4 L of displacement. In fact I'm pretty sure aftermarket upgrades can already do that to the "old" viper

98intrigue 01-24-2012 11:11 PM

You can definitely see the contour of the new front lip...but for anyone that thinks this is the production version, I feel sorry for you.

Remember this GTR test mule?

How is this old news when these are the first pics released, and the first time anyone has reported what the interior looks like .. (And by the way, according to the article it looks like there are buttons on the interior for programmable traction control, first year Viper has ever had it and one reason they stopped making them after 2010.

m4a1mustang 01-25-2012 06:46 AM

Hahaha, yeah its pretty obvious its a test mule.

Alchemy 01-25-2012 06:56 AM

Love the Viper. Raw nastiness. I got to drive a RT/10 briefly back in 1999 I think it was. Ill never forget what a beast that thing was. I got out and was like holy sh1t I wonder what the GTS is like!

MJB 01-25-2012 07:16 AM

I'm sure it is a test mule, but I doubt that 2013 will be that drastically different in appearance compared to the last Gen. Either way its going to be a bad a@# looking Viper. IDK about you guys, but I still think the 96-02 GTS (GEN II) was the best looking Viper ever made... Here is a forum members over at VCA (bushido) 97 GTS.. Best year and color combo made IMO.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...dgeViper12.jpg

And down below is the Viper I almost bought last summer.. 98 Gts with only 9k miles on it. Owner wanted 43k for it.. Had wheels, exhaust, headers, very clean.. I passed it up when we couldn't work out the price... Oh well, now I have a 370z:ugh2: :stirthepot:, lol

m4a1mustang 01-25-2012 07:18 AM

Yeah I love the old GTS... so bad ***.

Armonster 01-25-2012 09:44 AM

I just hope they make the inside look as nice as the outside.

98intrigue 01-25-2012 10:53 AM

I hope to join the blue/white club soon.

Just pulled this from my car club this morning, which is filled with a bunch of diehard Viper guys:

Quote:

Ralph Gilles, CEO of SRT, provided this information on the new Viper courtesy of Viper magazine (I don't think any media outlets have reported on this yet because Dodge/SRT wants to keep the media focused on the new Dodge Dart...so you are definitely getting this before anyone else). The new car will, 1) be built in a revamped Conner Ave. Assembly plant which made the original Vipers (well Gen 2 and up), but with new state of the art manufacturing techniques learned from their Fiat/Ferrari brothers (with special attention paid to interior/upholstery processes). 2) the car was designed and engineered entirely state side (i.e. no direct Fiat influence). 3) it will definitely have a V10. "It is actually all new but will be very familiar to you all...let's just say it has enjoyed a very deliberate evolution." 4) It will be a manual. No paddles. 5) Unlike all previous Vipers it will launch as a coupe first rather than a convertible. 6) It will be the flagship of the new SRT brand and will definitely drop the Dodge name. They are focused on crafting "a legend" and not just another car. 7) It will debut at the NY Auto Show in April 2012 with production starting in Q4 2012.

Sibze 01-26-2012 08:52 AM

Meh, need to see what its actually going to look like

Isamu 01-26-2012 02:39 PM

I have been photochopping all kinds of vipers lately...

ImportConvert 01-28-2012 06:01 PM

The fastest production car to hit the 'Ring doesn't need any little paddles to kick ***. Wish I were in the market for another American supercar.
