Would be cool if the Supra came back.

Agree. It was an awesome car for its time, and still kicks *** today. It's neat how it has performance nearly identical to the 370Z even though it's about 15 years older comparably.

given toyota's awesome pricing on the LFA, I bet the supra will be like $160k and the GTR will still be the better buy

The supra and the 300zx tt were both over 40k in the 1990s, so even if they made them to the exact same specs now, just inflation adjusted they'd each be over 60k. When you consider that the GTR is probably the least expensive new version of a turbocharged very fast GT car (skyline) and its about 90k, and toyota will probably expect at least 100k for this.

Looks like the offspring of a LFA and the FT86 concept.

You're adjusting for inflation but not considering streamlining and advancement of technology as relates to production.

Hmm.

Well, all I can say is that if Toyota was going to do this, they have two options:

1. An upgraded version of the FR-S that would compete with the Z.

2. A downgraded version of the LFA that would compete with the GT-R.

That said, don't hold your breath...

Consider that the 2010 C6 corvette costs within about $4,000 of the 1984 C4 Corvette after taking inflation into account...yeah.

part of that is due to adjusting the target market for the vette. ZL1 buyers now were the regular vette buyers in the past.

Plus, there's been less significant streamlining since the 90's. The japanese had already lss'd their processes by that time, and not much has changed since.

In addition, IC's comment assumes that an instantiation of a flagship concept car will be made with existing streamlined processes. Just as the technology that went into the 90s 300zx was brand new for its time and hence expensive, is there any reason to believe that the technology that goes into a new version of the Supra won't be just as cutting edge and expensive

Understandible point. However, corvettes are pretty much running newer versions of the same idea now. Light car, big v8 engine the end. Great concept and it works. It also makes it easier for them to continually improve the car without significantly increasing the. Don't get me wrong, obviously the new LS motors are leaps and bounds over anything even from 10 years ago. Chevy didn't really have to cut anything out of the car in order to try and maintain or reduce its cost.

The only reason the 370z and 350z cost less than the z32 TT is because the Z went from having a purpose built twin turbocharged motor used only in one application, to simply using the same vq that they throw in into the Altima, Maxima, FX, EX, G, M (and i'm probably missing some). Designing every car around the same motor really helps cut costs, but when it comes to building performance cars, it really kills the performance and soul of the vehicle. The fact of the matter is, a stock 370z isn't exactly going sh1t all over a maxima in a straight line. You know why? because they have the same powerplant and the Z isn't even that much lighter.

Had the Z continued to receive its own motor for only its application it, and nissan had continued to improve upon its design, you'd wind up with a Z with a VR38DETT, and if the Z were actually designed around that motor, or one similar to it, the Z would beat corvettes just like it did in the 90's.
