Tune and downpipe is a common "stage 2" setup.

aaahh gotcha. thanks. For some reason I was under the impression that a stock STI was as fast or if not faster than a Z. Dont know why I thought that after reading this thread, granted a WRX is easy to mod...

Straight-line the z definitely has the edge in anything but maybe 0-60.

Just noticed you're in Western Washington. Get a Z and be done with it. You can stay home for the 2 days you might get snow and bum rides to Crystal if you ski/board.

Im assuming due to AWD vs. RWD off launch..

Good to know, thanks for the info..

you can't even tell the difference between sti and regular WRX anymore if they're debadged. i think.

thanks for the info guys, another reason for the possible switch, is i would like to possibly go on road trips, any huge diffference in gas mileage?

Depends how you drive. I can usually get a few mpg better in my Z than my WRX, but it's pretty close.

I think Subaru has made them all look the same. The best ways to tell the difference is the Brakes and maybe the wheels, not sure about the wheels.

Spec Jay 09-07-2011 07:21 PM

main difference is brakes and wing. wrx comes with no/stubby wing vs the sti's. and of course brakes. wrx wheels look pretty similar to sti wheels already.

Gas mileage in both the Z and STI suck so if that is a concern look for a different car altogether. If you want power and gas mileage look no further than a C6 Corvette. Used to get 32mpg on the hwy with that thing doing 80+ to California. Then again this won't solve your AWD itch for snow and rain. Honestly in a performance car gas mileage shouldn't even be a factor; or at least that's my opinion. That's the price I pay to have a fun car

not anymore. 2011 WRXs got the widebody.

The STI has stuff like the wing, and some little accents all over the car (fender, over the exhaust pipes, etc), grille...and of course rims/brakes
