Vw r32

Any one have experience with this car? My brother is looking at a second car (has a Mazda RX-8 also). Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Solid car. Pretty quick. Good amount of interior room. There is a cam "cap" issue. I would have him research it. Basically there is a small thimble looking cap on toward the end of the cam that wears thin on the motors. It can cause a huge repair bill. I had it happen on my gti. Cost $1800 to fix. My car had 62k on it when it happened.

Did you have a VR6 GTI?? I've had a GTI VR6, Mk 4 R32, and a TT VR6 with zero problems. My GTI was supercharged and I drove it to 140k and sold it getting 8 grand easily.

My R32 was the body style before that one and was a stick! They only offered that model with the DSG tranny. The VR6 engine is pretty bullit proof!
Depending on year model most GTIs were 1.8t or 2.0t powered.

i was in the market 3yrs ago to get a R32...but decided not to get it due to the DSG. i wanted a manual gearbox. i looked at the GTI's and put together my option online but after a while i still wanted the R32 with MT (other markets have them) and so abandonded the entire vw thing all together.

and just went as cheap as i could find on a boxy hatch and got my current honda Fit MT. paid cash, got a second one even for the wife and still had money left from the potential R32 budget.

if the DSG doesnt bother your brother get it. it's a very solid car.

He actually is ok with the DSG because his RX8 is a manual. Thanks for the opinions to this point.

Had one briefly, it tried to burn down my house so I sold it....

There was a recall about 5 months later for all 5K of the R32's having to do with the evap canister or something or other related to the gas tank. Basically, the car "burped" out fuel and spilled it (a very considerable amount) all over my garage over night. VWOA didn't do sh!t and neither did the dealer, at the time said nothing was wrong.

Other than that, decent car.

I had a VF Engineering stage 1 SC 6 speed manual R32 and loved it. Handled great, tracked it, very reliable. Previous body style though.

Volkswagen Parts
Sorry for a late response...but in my own point of view r32 is one of the most aggressive and powerful hatcbacks in my driving history...It's not mine actually...it belongs to my dad. it features darkened lights and a 3.2L engine which could run on its standard speed limit.although the size is too small, you can still feel the comfort of driving....as of the moment, r32 hasn't gave my dad a headache....
