If you had $25K what would you buy?

I tried searching to see if anyone had started this thread and couldn't find anything.

Moving on; If you had $25k to spend on another car that you could work on and modify, what would you buy?
I'd buy the new genesis 2.0T R-Spec and get the basic stuff; exhaust, intake tune etc. I think for the price and the warranty it comes with, and not to mention the fact that Hyundai really stepped up their game, the genesis is the next best thing you can get under 30k after the 370z.
What would you ladies and gentlemen buy?

bigaudiofanat 07-30-2011 10:36 PM

I bought a altima however if I did not have to worry about the snow I would have bought a genesis!

shadoquad 07-30-2011 10:49 PM

If I'm modding, I'm not concerned with warranty. Looking at this as a toy (not a DD), I'd buy a track toy that you could buy AND mod for under 25k, like a used Miata or S2k, or if you're more into drag, maybe a used stang. Best of both worlds, maybe a C5Vette

But if this car needs to be practical, I wouldn't mod a lot and would avoid RWD due to weather. Get a GTI.

Red__Zed 07-30-2011 11:17 PM

For a toy, I'd get another s. FOr practicality, I'd get a wrx.

fullmonty 07-30-2011 11:27 PM

In general I'd buy some ointment for Shados erpes'. But car wise I'd buy a winter beater, and just some small stuff for the Z, like nav system

gr8-wrx 07-30-2011 11:41 PM

I agree with red_zed, I'd get a wrx in your situation. Practicality (4 doors + AWD for the snow) and tunability in one. Looks are not so hot IMO, though. I used to have one, but sold it for my Z. Looks are what you got the Z for, right? :)

CrownR426 07-31-2011 12:14 AM

That's perfect for a 240sx!!!!
You can have one modded with cosmetics for that price.
Which I think is the best you can go.
I do love the 05 Sti's!

Gungrave 07-31-2011 12:50 AM

I wouldn't get a car with it, but I'd go get me a new white Ducati 848 EVO :D

Isamu 07-31-2011 02:09 AM

I would take the 25k finish my red 300zx build, and with the remainder refresh my black 300zx....

otherwise... i'd buy a Juke!

daisuke149 07-31-2011 10:45 AM

pontiac G8 GT.

Headers, exhaust, intake tune = MONSTER

ODEHBOY 07-31-2011 11:08 AM

bmw e92 335

Baer383 07-31-2011 11:19 AM

A Miata.:roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2:

NewlyIMPORTed 07-31-2011 11:24 AM

I would get a used jeep and DD that, then put the rest into the STI and keep it for the weekends.

nuTinmuch 07-31-2011 12:04 PM

Wrx.

Boost_lee 07-31-2011 01:22 PM

Used STI

Spec Jay 07-31-2011 02:06 PM

Hatas gon hate. Srsly don't knock one till you've driven one, at speed, top down, thru tight corners.

More Miatas race on actual race tracks than Zs.

They're fantastic performance for money. It's about more than big power.

But whatever, ignorance is bliss.

phelan 08-01-2011 01:00 AM

WRX easy.

That's because they are cheap as **** to maintain. Try going through $1500 in tires a few times and you will wish you were tracking a Miata. You get a ton of fun with not nearly the cost.

Zerafian 08-01-2011 12:19 PM

if your looking for a little class look for a 06-08 infiniti m35-45x. Friend of mine got an 06 back in 2009 for $26K

They handle nice. But they are ugly. and they are under powered. even for their weight and handling they need more power to really be proper fun.

They arent nearly as refined as the lotus are to run around with that little power.

Our z's arent exactly big power but are a heck of alot more fun than the miata.

and as someone said, its cus they are cheap and easy. I have a friend out of PA that runs a shop that enters their miata in every race they can. He said he would rather race his solstice though except for the miata is just cheaper to run / race.

kenchan 08-01-2011 02:38 PM

hummm... if i only had the Z wat would i buy for $25K.

id probably get a new Mazdaspeed3 without the nav version. use the rest of the money on snow tire set for the 3. not too many cars i like in that price range.

This would be a pretty hard choice for me because the S2000 has been and still is one of my dream cars that I could one day buy and build from the ground up and keep my Z as a DD. It doesn't snow in SoCal and the rain isn't horrific even though it can get bad sometimes so I would be fairly ok driving my Z all the time.
I've always wanted a silver/white s2k with red interior, carbon fiber top, turbocharged, V3 coils, a sexy set of rims and a big (functional) spoiler. A loud dual exhaust would be nice too. That, my Z, a Bugatti Renaissance, Zonda convertible, and a Agera R in my garage at my Newport Beach house and I'll be as happy as can be :driving::happydance:

ClemsonWill 08-02-2011 08:18 AM

I would also get another S2000 or maybe a mazdaspeed miata. Both are definitely great track cars for the money. You think about running a Corvette regularly on the track. Cost would be triple without triple the fun.

You guys say it's cheap to repair as if that isn't a good thing. That's precisely part of why I suggested it, if the OP wants a track toy. And :bs: you can't have fun in a Miata. It's a Front-Engine, RWD car. It is built to handle, not the best, but for maximum enjoyment. People get so wrapped up in performance numbers that they can often overlook the simple joy of a well-balanced sports car. Go drive any of the nimble roadsters of 60's-70's Europe and you'd understand. It isn't always about speed alone. Sometimes it's about sensation.

Of course they're not as fun as a Z, but a Z costs over 25k. Miatas are incredibly fun, though, and if I ever get into tracking, I'll probably be doing it in a Spec Miata because of cost.

I'm still LOL'ing at someone comparing a $50K Lotus to a Miata.

Isamu 08-02-2011 08:55 AM

mmm turbo Miata... under 10k F yEa!

see man when you start to assume things about what i think of a car thats where the BS lies.

for e.g

Miata's are fun. but their not great fun. You really gotta build em up for them to get to the level of fun as some other cars.

For example, my versa is fun. its light and nimble. turn that wheel it rotates. but its **** for power. Still fun, and the reason why i got it over the other small cars in the segment.

But when the OP says what to get for 25k, there is alot out there better than the miata. because sometimes its not all about the sensation or the handling. (opposite of what you said)

Otherwise why stop there. OP should get a bike instead. The sensation and the handling are great. Or a kit car.. better handling than miata's and more power etc..

And also, if you havnt properly driven a g8 gt then maybe you should before you become a hater. Not the same classification as a miata that you love, but by god the fun you have in that car is just incredible. The roar of a v8 and the feel of the torque is a sensation, that shouldnt be discounted. again, its not always about the handling. Balance = key and not talking about weight distribution balance. Balance in terms of overall points of the car. Miata = small, handles well. thats it. and again, its uggggllly.

A better option than the miata would be an S2k.

shadoquad 08-02-2011 11:45 AM

Daisuke, we'll just have to agree to disagree. You make fine points, but I still like what a Miata gets you for 25k. I'd get one for 15k and spend the rest modding it.

But it's all good. And I agree that a G8 would be hella fun and roomy.

god damnit. we cannot agree to disagree.

Thats like ravens and steelers hugging each other on the field. Its ONNNNN NOOOOWWWWW

The pontiac will eat that miata like in that one trans am commercial.
