Looks like Ferrari will be offering 7 years of free scheduled maintenance to anyone who buys a new 2012 Ferrari. I think this is awesome and definitely a step towards making exotics somewhat more affordable (). Now we just need the other exotic car companies to do the same *cough*Lamborghini*cough*.

That is a huge step toward affordability. ESPECIALLY if it will transfer the balance to used cars in a few years when/if they are flipped.

I sure as hell would not buy a 5 year-old Ferrari at present because of all the **** coming due. But If this were the case, it would be a VERY viable option because all that stuff would a) not be "stacked up" waiting for the new owner and b) you would get at least 2 years of pure enjoyment without "hidden" expense. At which time you could sell it, or pony up and maintain.

Exactly! That would be awesome for me because it's exactly what I wanted to do with my next car purchase! Instead of buying some crazy exotic and keeping it for only a couple months, I could actually enjoy it for longer.

Not now, but hopefully I will in a couple of years. About to start my last year as an engineering student and hoping to get a job at Exxon when I graduate. If I can get that job (which from what I've heard pays 6 figures just starting) it shouldn't be a problem.

I wasn't planning on getting a new one, just like a 5 year old used one. If they do this same sort of thing and have it transferrable, it would definitely increase the chances of me getting one.

I know realistically I may never get one, but I can still dream for now

IMO, you don't buy a Lambo if you can't afford the lifestyle that comes with it.....and by that I mean that you need to be making well into the 6 figure territory or even in the 7 figures. You don't want to have to worry about a car that's worth more than your salary.

Oh, so we're not allowed to daydream these days? Or we can't appreciate the performance vehicles at the apex of engineering and artistic design? lulz

This is exactly what this sort of maintenance program would help with. I'm obviously not going to buy one if I can't afford to buy/keep it. A free maintenance plan would virtually eliminate most if not all of the ridiculous maintenance expenses for an exotic car.

More realistically though, I will probably end up with a GT-R.

Not trying to hate on daydreaming man. I dream of owning an exotic everyday, and I hope that one day I will. I'm just saying, cheaper maintenence doesn't negate the fact that you still have to worry about the car if it were to be damaged etc. I personally would feel a lot more comfortable owning a $300,000 asset (besides a house) if I could afford not to care as much about it.

True, but I will figure all that stuff out once I'm ready and able to buy one. It obviously won't be a DD so less worries there. I really only want to buy/own it for a short time and not keep it forever. Just more about the experience of owning one and figured the best time to do it would be before I start a family.

True, fair enough. I really want to own one too. Will do it some day, even if it happens to be when I have a family lol. I'll be the cool dad with the ferrari....that would be pretty cool.

Yeah it would be, but at that point I would rather get rid of the car and buy a nicer house and stuff. Then I could settle down with a GT-R

Indeed, a GTR is still a head turner, and a lot more practical.

Al, look at the fire in Shahid's eyes when he's talking about those cars. He's already way beyond daydreaming about these cars; our broski is a winning winner He's going to make it happen.
