I don't look at cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo, Merc SLS, etc. as supercars. Just high-end sports cars.

I think a lot of it depends on where you live, as well. In the Tysons Corner / McLean / Leesburg / Great Falls / Fairfax area of Northern VA when you see a Gallardo or 430 (and even the 458 now) the immediate reaction is, "cool, another one."

:iagree:

Lemers 06-01-2011 08:37 AM

Don't forget there is a term when a car is just too super; they are "hypercars". The veyron is a Hypercar

What is next? Ubercar?

Lemers 06-01-2011 08:56 AM

Let's define ubercar right now. Ubercar is a car that defies physics, costs more than the national budget of an industrialized country and is adornments fit for a king.

shadoquad 06-01-2011 11:24 AM

If you look at "super" from a versatility standpoint, anything that won't tow a trailer in a snowstorm isn't very super to me. :rofl2:

Lemers 06-01-2011 11:33 AM

A supercar must be "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound"

It also has to despise antisemitism and run on a platform of diplomacy, plus it has to be an NFL fan.

Lemers 06-01-2011 11:52 AM

If it left you in it dust at a traffic light you would have to fight off the urge to thank him.

If rarity is a qualification then certainly the Ford Pinto is at least 1/2 a supercar.....there are only like 18 of them on the road today! :D

m4a1mustang 06-01-2011 01:12 PM

AMC Gremlin is even better.

i agree, also 500 hp isnt elite anymore either.

There was an interesting article a while back on C&D. It was one of their "Things I'd Do Differently" pieces. It may have been with DeLorean, but don't hold me to that.

The interviewee was marveling at how spoiled with performance we are now. A new Hyundai Elantra can hang with 60's sports cars on race tracks.

LOL how did I miss this post? Ok if you're one of the rare few who don't live among the densest population of millionaires perhaps in the US, is it still ok to consider Lambos super? :bowrofl:

The "dime a dozen" factor is exactly why I could never buy a Mustang. I did test drive the 5.0 and it is badass, but when all is said and done, I'd still rather have the Z.

Lemers 06-01-2011 08:01 PM

I've always said the the V6 waters down the mustang line a lot, but it is also the reason the mustang still exists. Ford has signed the mustang death certificate several times in past decades, but base model sales kept it alive.

yea, but atleast with the GT this time, they made it... quiet amazing...

and for the record, I consider the murcielago a super car...

I think the current V6 is a pretty impressive car though.

:iagree:

I'm glad they finally gave it some balls. My first Mustang was a V6 model... the little old 3.8L rated at 193 hp and 225 lb-ft. V6s always would get ragged on by the 4.6L V8 guys... "what goes around comes around." :icon17:

The GT is quit? Get some aftermarket exhaust then. :)

I agree with this. The Z is a better, more exotic looking car and I don't see one on every street corner yet, unlike Mustangs.

m4a1mustang 06-02-2011 07:39 AM

I do like the look of the Z. Definitely far more striking than the Mustang is. I think it's more of a sleek and sexy look vs. the Mustang's brutish badass look. The Mustang is just one of those cars that looks menacing in your rear view mirror... the Z not so much... especially when Red__Zed is driving. :D

The Mustang is about as menacing as a kitten. When I see them in the rear view, they just look like another coupe to me. When I see a Z back there, they look exotic. I'm thinking, "Hey it's a Por--- nope, just another cheap sucker like me." :roflpuke2:
