I also hear that there may even be an eco boosted version of either the GT or GT500, but thats just a rumor.

I think i've posted this before, but its a good preview of whats to come for the GT500.

If they kept it In that price range I'd buy two.

I'd be happy sub 65 if it holds up to claims.

Lemers 05-27-2011 04:30 PM

The article is saying $60k. That's quite a bump in price.

From 48-55 now?

Lemers 05-27-2011 04:36 PM

I'd rather it stay at $48 - 55k.

They always price the "nicely equipped", same pricing for a current gen GT500, they can get up to 60k easy.

They'll have a base model available at 50 easy.

How do you know they're not bumping the base one up to 60k, with "nicely equipped" nearing 70?

Lemers 05-27-2011 04:51 PM

The black on I saw today was nicely equipped and stickered for $55k. I'd hope someone could talk them down from that.

Because then, they'd be venturing into "super snake" territory. The GT500 has always been the working mans "affordable" super car, once you make it past the 60k price barrier, you price your current demographic out of being able to afford the car, thus, losing millions in sales. Ford has always been the consumer friendly car brand, and IMHO, they wont allow their customers to break the bank to own their cars. It's also a direct competitor with Chevy's new boy the ZL1, which will be priced between 50-55k, gotta stay competitive.

Look, I'm just sayin', never assume. They could still screw the pooch on pricing. It's happened in the past.

Just wait til the Camaro LZ1 and rumored Z28 are released.

The Ford response will really raise the bar.

Lemers 05-27-2011 05:50 PM

I don't know if the price is going up or not, but I were in the market for a GT500 I would probably buy the 550 HP for $48-55k over a 600 HP starting at $60k. That $12k on the starting price means a lot to me.

baldie 05-27-2011 06:08 PM

the gt500 are badass, gotta do the gt500 front conversion on mine

Red__Zed 05-27-2011 07:42 PM

meh, for me, I'm willing to pay for that extra power, especially since it is factory.

UH60driver 05-27-2011 08:37 PM

I was looking at the GT500's when I bought my Z...I have a Ford motor co discount code, and they weren't willing to budge one dollar for me off of retail. They said if anything they'd sell it for MORE than sticker.:ugh2:
. I laughed at the salesman and went back to the Nissan dealer.
The Z is more fun for everyday driving anyways (meaning you can enjoy the curves and whatnot without having to worry about the po-po for speeding...I didn't find it much fun to take the stang in the curves).

Still a nice ride though:tiphat:

Should have gone to a different dealer.

Lemers 05-27-2011 08:46 PM

The crappy thing about the Shelby is that not every dealer can get them in, so they believe they don't have to budge. And dont think that dealers don't know how close the next Shelby.

No Mustang has ever been considered Supercar worthy. Its great for straight line red light to next red light but it seriously lacks Supercar handling. Its great for throwing around curves and fishtailing like the Bandit. And now they want to add more power to it when the power it has now cant be applied to the ground?

Is that so? and who are you to judge this exactly? Dont know if you know this, but a $45k daily driver put down a better lap time at Laguna Seca than an Audi R8... so what again, makes a supercar?

Best thing to do is go on the USAA.com website and do a search for the particular model you want. Any dealership in a military town is going to fvck you on pricing, they know how much you make and can afford. I was quoted a price of 29.5 here in Lawton, and they wouldnt move. Drove 2 hours to Lewisville, TX and got mine for 27.5, i'm sure it would be the same case for a GT500, if you're willing to drive, you can get a deal. I'd fly across the country if it were possible to find one for a little over invoice.

Lemers 05-28-2011 04:11 PM

I understand what you're saying about a $45k car beating a $150k car but I still don't see the industry considering the Shelby a "super car"

Funny you say that because a went to my hometown of SA over 500 miles from El Paso to buy my Z.

Trust me I would look around. I'm just saying not ever ford get the mustang and they know how far away they all are. Little reason for them to deal.

I thought about the Shelby, but in the end I'm just too cheap to but a $55k car. Maybe when I'm old and retired, but not now.

:icon18: Your wife sounds like mine. She says the same thing, and I also have 3 kids. But we have a minivan as the family car that's paid off, and I take good care of it.

You're not cheap, you just have champagne taste on a beer budget. I wouldn't pay that kind of money if I didn't have it or knew I couldn't afford it.

Screw that ish.

what's a gtr then?

Endgame 05-28-2011 06:01 PM

Shelby is not worth it to me... I would take the Boss 302 (in either form) over the Shelby.....

I would have no problem buying a Shelby. I can afford it. I make plenty a month, I have a great credit score, I have plenty in the bank for a down payment. I just grew up in a house where cars were deemed transpartation and not recreation. It took a year deployment for me to convince myself to spend $36k on a car in the first place. My wife tried to get me to buy a conv g37 when the didn't have the coupe w/ 6mt. That would have been the same cost as the Shelby I saw.

I feel you on that man. I was raised the same way.

I coulda paid cash for a Shelby, still thought it was too much money for a car...

I'm slowly breaking down though. It might be because everything else has gotten so expensive.

Lemers 05-28-2011 06:59 PM

Like I said before. If my cheapness won out and I bought myself a civic si would that mean I couldnt afford the Z I'm driving right now?

Wat?

Lemers 05-28-2011 07:36 PM

When people think I bought the most expensive car I could afford I ask them the question about the Honda. I think it stupid for someone to think I couldnt have gotten a Shelby, a cayman, or even a GTR because I bought a Z.

Just seemed random. That's all

I have a lot of respect for people that live below their means. Takes humility.

Word! I can easily afford a GTR but it just doesn't make sense to me. I want the price of my cars to be an afterthought... I like too many expensive things to be spending all of my money on one!

Must be nice to live at home:roflpuke2:

Lemers 05-28-2011 08:05 PM

Yeah I'd like to send my kids to college, but wouldn't a GTR be hawt.

m4a1mustang 05-28-2011 08:07 PM

And I would like to buy a house some day! the time for really expensive cars will come!

Lemers 05-28-2011 08:11 PM

I told my wife when the kids are out of the house. Ill be make a retirement check from the military and a second paycheck from my second career then I'll buy ever fast car I want. I'll still be cheap though, and not go too crazy unless I win a lottery.

m4a1mustang 05-28-2011 08:13 PM

Im pretty happy that I can keep myself entertained with relatively inexpensive cars. My problem is my desire to get a new one every week. :icon17:

Lemers 05-28-2011 08:16 PM

And that's why even looked at the Shelby this week anyways.
