Traded my 09 370Z for G37IPL

After two years of owning my Z I decided that I needed a change. As much as I like the beast its to focused for my driving style. I guess the noise was the biggest issue. So deafening on certain roads, mainly concrete, that I couldn't hear my radio .Im alot older than most you fellows;) so things like that do become bothersome.

Got a great deal for i,t 200 bucks below invoice. Sales guy says their not selling. I think is because people have missed the whole marketing of this car. The price was the main reason I bought it. 10,000 less than a comparable BMW 335I. Its got plenty of performance for me plus there will be only 400 of them made. It may not suit you young guys but for myself is perfect. Pick it up Tuesday :happydance:

370Zsteve 05-15-2011 06:05 AM

This is BS! I'm 56 and you can't pry this car from my hands. You're going soft! How are you gonna pick up hot young babes?

My dad is 52 and drives a 350Z. He loves his Z and never complains on how loud his (or my 370z) is. Yup.. he is going soft =P

Red__Zed 05-15-2011 08:07 AM

Congrats on the new ride.

happytheman 05-15-2011 08:12 AM

Have fun with your new ride! Its all good! I considered the G as well before settling on the Z and I'm sure that most on this community have thought at least once about getting one as well (whether it was before or after their purchase).

Pictures when you get it would be nice! Truth be told, if give that G a little drop and put some sweet wheels on it, you're gonna be able to pick up hot young chicks in it too!:)

Damn, I'm 54 and the only way I'll give up my Z is when they pry it from my cold dead hands. I really don't find it that noisey. My only bitch is the road noise from the stock tires, those I regret, but thats another thread.:bowrofl:

Geez, I am 50 and thought I was the oldest. :icon17: I have been driving Z cars since I was 20 and will keep driving them even after DMV takes my license away and I am in Depends.

Mt Tam I am 05-15-2011 09:00 AM

OP: just how old are you? I am older than most here too, but I am thinking about improvements to the Z, not a sedan. It does sound like a nice one though.

Lemers 05-15-2011 09:07 AM

OP unless you have small kids the IPL is gonna add much, but a some sound proofing. Adults can't really fit in the backseats and the added weight takes away from driving dynamics.

kenchan 05-15-2011 09:08 AM

Plus IPL are for whimps.

;) jk congrats. :D

I'm 59 The latest C/D May issue has a comparison test with the new series 1M,TTRS, and the IPL
According to the results the IPL had the best steering and was able to keep up with the other two cars. I,d say that's pretty good company to keep with. It really is a outstanding car
Sort of a wolf in sheep's clothes.

IPL is coupe only. At least he didn't join the Mustang bandwagon and kept it in the same family tree :stirthepot:

What do you consider keeping up? Dont get me wrong its not slow at all, but I think you might be a little dissapointed when you put your right foot down, compared to your Z.

ninous26 05-15-2011 10:42 AM

He pretty much bought the equivalent of a Nismo 370z in G37 form. The difference in speed and acceleration is really not going to be a big of a difference to the point of where he'll be disappointed compared to the Z.

kenchan 05-15-2011 10:46 AM

Im impressed you are posting on the internets. :D ;) good luck with your new car.

Yes, it's a wonder you did not write a letter to ak370z and send it via USPS so he could perhaps post it on your behalf! :bowrofl:

I thought it was just cosmetics on the IPL? Or am I thinking of something else? I have early Alzheimers, so I need a lot of help these days. :p

I agree. At the end of that comparison the IPL finished last and had the lowest performance numbers (If I remember correctly)...They said it was a G37 with "Chin Implants"...Would have gotten the 335is

Mainly cosmetics yes but they are all "strategically" done for best aerodynamics. Newer rims and tires I believe and better brakes as well. It has stiffer springs but softer dampening to make the car handle better but stay comfortable at the same time. The engine is supposed to have a special "tune" and high flow exhaust with monster exhaust tips to make 348-350 HP.

So yes, pretty much a Nismo in G37 version but they all it IPL.. IMO its all cheesy and lame. Infiniti needs to wake up and really compete. No BS. How about an E92 M3 equivalent car?

kenchan 05-15-2011 11:37 AM

Now now, we all know the limitation of IPL..but no need to bash it just because its got a body kit that looks 1998. :D ;)

ninous26 05-15-2011 11:50 AM

1998 lol

srbrubak 05-15-2011 12:13 PM

You guys are not old, I become eligible for Medicare this December. But I am not old, I am a person living my life to the fullest while I can.

gr8-wrx 05-15-2011 12:20 PM

I think the G37 IPL is a nice car! I could see myself getting this too, if I needed something more practical...

True enough, the G37 IPL reminds me of excessive use of body cladding, like what GM did in the late 90's with their cars.

Me coming from an 09 G37s fully loaded and downgrading to a base+sport Z for the reason of needing a little more performance. I cant see how u can justify spending an extra 6k for red leather, slightly harder springs, slightly better paint and infinitized nismo wheels. In all due honesty is exactly what the G37 should have been from jump. With a 112in wheelbase, I would expect these kinds of features at its 46k pricepoint. I hope you got a much better deal than MSRP?

AS FAR AS ROAD NOISE...
Dude giimmie a break, some continental dws or hankook ventus low profile es4's woulda killed most your problems and dynamat woulda eliminated the issue, all for less than $900.
To each his own though.

UR GETTING TOO OLD?
Sounds like you don't want to let go of your midlife crisis and you should really be in a Cadillac DTS, not an infiniti. 10 more years, I give you before you trade in for Acces-a-ride. Lol

All in all.. the G is a great car. I've owned 2, and a ipl at 45k I would consider since I only paid under 39k for my loaded G37s. Have fun in your G.

moondoggy 05-15-2011 02:25 PM

When you young bucks were crappin in your diapers I was riding high performance Sport bikes. You want Balls? Try 120 mph on a public road inches away from some guys rear fender. Ive had more close calls then most of you will ever experience So I earned the right to drive an Ole Man's car.

You that live in the Bay area know what I,m talking about, The Sunday Morning Ride, and Skyline Blvd. :stirthepot:

Z74Z09 05-15-2011 02:31 PM

I'm coming up on 69 and the 370Z is my fourth Z. My last Z, that I sold in order to make room for the new one, was a 300ZX Twin Turbo with aftermarket tweaks. Yes, I am starting to slow down. I actually test drove a G37, but just couldn't pull the trigger.

I'm looking to get my handicap tag (VA Disability Rating) so I don't have to park the Z near all these f*cktards....but I'm not that old.

Hmm interesting, sounds more like young and dumb to me but thats ok its easy to confuse luck and earned right I guess. I ride sports bikes too, I guess that means I've earned something appearently? I hear dodge has a new mini van that has almost 300 hp, how about a test drive.

Enjoy the new ride softy...:stirthepot: I will give you credit for at least sticking with a 2 door and not buying a mustang.
