Nissan Maxima

So next week I open a savings account strictly for my car buying fund. The plan is next fall grab a good deal on a left over nissan maxima.

Anyone here own one or know someone that has one? "newer one of course"

Some may be asking why not a z? Simply put I can not afford the z. For my civic last year for full coverage was almost 610 but with two accidents coming off this winter this will help my insurance rates. But with a sports car they would almsot be in the 600 mark again. Plus the passenger room and the style of the front lights is like a z which I like. I will be getting the sports package for the suspension the HID's and rear led tail lights alos the leather.

bigaudiofanat 10-19-2010 05:53 PM

NO one likes the maxima?

tjlazer 10-19-2010 06:05 PM

This is a Nissan 370Z forum. Think you might be lost ;)

bigaudiofanat 10-19-2010 06:11 PM

I know where I am but I am also in the "other vehicles" section.

ThoriumHotdog 10-19-2010 06:13 PM

I like the new Maxima. I'd definitely buy one if I wanted 2 more doors.

bigaudiofanat 10-20-2010 01:16 AM

Ya that is the big reason I am getting one not to mention the looks.

Jamaica 10-20-2010 01:26 AM

i wonder what tha pricing is like?

djpathfinder 10-20-2010 01:59 AM

We have a 2002 Maxima SE. Still running strong. Hated the 5th gen...bad styling, too bloated. Like the current 6th gen though.

ChrisSlicks 10-20-2010 08:08 AM

I've had 2. A 2000 and 2002, both good cars. When 2005 came around I was looking to get another but was disheartened by the disappearance of the 6spd so I bought a left over 4 door G35. Best decision I ever made.

Both cars need snow tires to be winter drivable. The G35x with snows is a blast, just wish they would mate a manual to it.

Jeffblue 10-20-2010 08:20 AM

if i was you i'd get an older g35

flashburn 10-20-2010 08:45 AM

GMTraitor3.5 has one.

And he keeps it in great condition.

As far as a practical sedan, they're pretty cool.

SalA 10-20-2010 09:25 AM

I recently rented a 2010 Maxima and it is really a nice vehicle. The ride is a little soft for me, but if you order the SE model or a sport suspension if available, it would be fine.

I bought my 2010 Maxima SV in April this year and love it. 290hp VQ35DE-K absolutely screams. The CVT takes some getting used to, but after a few weeks you barely notice it. Manual mode via the console shifter or paddles in the SV Sport model are lightning quick.

The front seats are phenomenal. Huge side bolsters, tons of leg room in the front and rear seats, and lots of head room even with the sun roof. I'm 6'5" and I have more than enough room. The Bose 9 speaker stereo sounds great as well.

Honestly, I got my car for a steal. Sticker price on the SV with cold weather pkg was about 35K and I was able to get them down to 28,800. If you're looking to do some mods, the aftermarket is a bit small for the 7th gen Max at this point. Feel free to PM me if you want and I can give you some more details.

I will endorse this comment.
A cheaper alternative, plenty of space and it is a turbo 1.6L. I already know the aftermarket is growing for this car and might become that fun sporty SUV.

i must say, the split second in which there is a maxima coupe, it looks pretty nice. they should replace the altima coupe with that.

When I saw that commercial I had a good laugh. I agree that the two door version looks pretty good compared to the Altima coupe!

the altima coupe is girly and the front is ugly. If i had to get a sedan and sell the Z, i'd get a g37S sedan. its nice how it basically comes fully loaded.

SalA 10-20-2010 01:00 PM

I agree...the car can definitely move. Great Nissan Motor

My dad likes them but I am not sure about them. I want something I can throw into corners.

Thanks for that opinion, I am defiantly getting the sport package.

I agree when I saw a video on how the car accelerates I had to go test drive one. I understand it now. Also testing shows the manual mode is slower than letting the computers take care of it. But it is more of a real feel. The seats OMG when I got in one the first time I felt small. My legs had so much room and I am 6ft 3in I felt like I finally found a car that fit me. Thanks for the offer I am thinking exhaust and intake will take me to at least 300hp

how old are you btw? if 25 isn't to far out, your rates will significantly decrease. couple that with a defensive driving class and your rates should be a fair amount lower. and i'm assuming 610 is for 6 months of coverage?

bigaudiofanat 10-20-2010 02:23 PM

22 and already did the class

i haven't done the class yet, but how much did your rates decrease (% or actual dollar amount before/after)

bigaudiofanat 10-20-2010 03:11 PM

I would say like 95 bucks a payment maybe less.

That is what I think too, if I had to sell the Z, Ima getting a G37S.. .... :ughdance: :bowrofl: :driving:

bigaudiofanat 10-21-2010 10:35 PM

I was just looking at them, not sure what to do now. The g37 has a bit more power and is rear wheel drive. But than again where I live you need front wheel in the winter. But than again why would I go out in the bad snow?

Jordo! 10-22-2010 12:48 AM

Honestly, unless you really like the Maxima, I'd look at either a new Civic or wait another 12 months for the FT-86.

If you need 4-doors, the Civic has that as an option and the FT-86 may as well.

bigaudiofanat 10-22-2010 12:58 AM

I am not getting a car until next call, I am tired of civic's I have had two everyone wants to race you or ask you if you want a body kit for it. I want to get into something bigger and more powerful. Civic is not an option. 4 door is a must pretty much.

chuckd05 10-22-2010 01:09 AM

G37xS Sedan is the car to buy...

or a really nice low mileage 07 G35xS Same car as 37 with the vq35hr for substantially less money I would imagine

No you don't.

I live in the same state as you and I drove all through last winter -- the worst winter we will probably ever see -- in the 370z.

Unless you are buying a 4x4 you aren't going to be driving in a foot of snow anyway, so you just need something that can survive through light powder on the roads. Any car, RWD or otherwise, can do that -- just invest in some winter tires.

Likewise, if a 4 door sedan is what you're looking for consider Subaru. A 4 door WRX will be in the same price range and will be sporty but chill at the same time, and if you want more luxury than that you could consider a Legacy.

bigaudiofanat 10-22-2010 12:04 PM

Can not do subaru just something about them I do not like. I think it is mainly between the g37xs and the maxima now.

Shifts are quick because in a CVT there are no gears so there really isn't any shifting

bigaudiofanat 10-22-2010 02:24 PM

Correct it is just making you think it is shift to make it more of a real manual feel.

when you use the manual mode in an regular AT, you are actually changing the gear, in a CVT you are just wasting gas.

Cmike2780 10-22-2010 03:19 PM

I know you were lookin for something with more power, but if luxury is the direction you want to go and want to keep it in the low $30k's, Infiniti is coming out with the G25.
Worth a look if the G37 is out of your budget.

Exactly. They give you 6 fake cogs to row through with preset ratios.
