can you elaborate on exactly the cause and problem with the tranny? it had to do with software???

i guess just like Jay Leno said, this car is like a Playstation.

ya the tranny didnt really have a problem is was the launch control was just so damn violent that over time just the physics of it caused damage with repeated use.

they updated the car ( very playstationish) you just hook it up to a special lap top click a button and watch a progress bar fill up just like an update to PS3.

the update reduces the launch control to 3K rpm vs 4500 and it changes how the clutches engage so its less stressful on the car. you can do the LC with VDC on now and its under warranty.

i did alot of testing with the new update and bottomline its only about one tenth of a second slower than the old LC ( 0-60 and 1/8th the two tests i ran) with no real stress on the car

i just did some googling about this and read up at edmunds about the update. but what happened to those 16 to 19 GT-Rs with busted tran? did Nissan do anything for them at all? since it is technically Nissan fault.

and regarding the update - this IS just like a firmware update for the PS3 lol.

the ones that went out and did like 30 launch controls one new cars and damaged first gear were left without a warranty. it was the same as if you launched a z06 at redline 30 times and came to your chevy dealer saying your clutch is burnt up.

there were a handful of GT-Rs that had solenoid failures in the trasmission. these were warranted.

the new update lets you do this launch with VDC on. if the car starts to get wheel hop or spin tires the VDC comes on. if you launch it without VDC on and it breaks your still not warranted like before.

So the long and short of all that is, to fix the problem, they reduced performance, and removed launch control from the new generation.

Sweet, but that still proves that the Spec V is a waste of money. 15 ft/lbs of torque for 80 seconds? What a gimic...

Don't forget. Shaving 100kg (220lbs) doesn't come cheap either. At some point there is a cost vs benefit tradeoff.

Case in point. 370z vs 2008 Cayman S. Does it perform 2x as fast because it costs 2x more?

So reading the insideline review it is a match for the ZR1 in 0-60 and 1/4 mile so what is the Nurburing time hmmm! This is interesting either way the other companies I believe have to really squeeze more HP out of there cars. Probably a good 20 hp bump and some race gas and the GT-R can get the Nurburing Record back from the ACR

Did that guy say that the breaking system cost $50K or did he say $15k?
Well you heard it from him that it's worth it. The 0-60 and quarter mile was very impressive.

Asheth 03-29-2009 11:45 AM

Hmm I am wondering how the pricing for all this is going to play out. It's almost like Nissan might have not did this right with the Spec-V. If they reduced weight bumbed horsepower to say 510 and rated it correctly. As it seems a stock GT-R can be anywhere from 480-520 hp.

If they strike now I am sure they will have a car that crushes the ZR1 and the ACR and its not like they would have to go to the drawing board to find the power because it is already there under the hood. They could easily get $120,000

Maybe MC can verify, but just by unlocking the ECU don't you get close to 550 hp?

Also buy going with Racing Octane gas you can jump to 515 hp? This is what I've gotten from watching on Topgear and Fifth Gear.

yeah its like 45-50K and for all that you get the same OEM Brembo Calipers painted silver. so that 50K is all in the rotors and other components

those times are pretty good but really no better than an 09 with the launch update

stock GT-Rs dyno anywhere from like 400-420 HP to the wheels. a simple ECU flash with the COBB accessport can give you about 30 HP with no mods or more with a custom flash that accounts for exhaust mods
