Mercury Capri Project Car
Well first off this is going to be a bit slow. I found this car at a friends house. I came over his house and just noticed it sitting there. After talking to him about it I bought it for 500. It is a 1994 Mercury Capri non turbo automatic.
My plans: Clean it up to running condition Wheels and Tires Audio System "Still Taking Ideas" Next year: Engine swap and trans swap 2.0L Auto to manual swap Repaint Custom seats Objective: To have a fun little car for corners and weekend drives, also just something to toy with. http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0526.jpg http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0524.jpg |

Clean the engine bay
http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0529.jpg http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0530.jpg http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0539.jpg I wanted to check out the paint so I really cleaned a small area than waxed it. Came up well. After I wash clay and wax the car I think it will all come up well. http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0525.jpg |
Starting up the car after 5 years of sitting. I think the stale fuel and the ecu being stupid has a big factor in that it kept stalling.
First try http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_MVI_0531.jpg Second http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_MVI_0532.jpg Small trunk http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0536.jpg After a quick wash "started to rain" So I really did not get a chance to clean as well as I wanted. http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0537.jpg |

Cram a 302 in it.
|
LOL I doubt it
Tomorrow change the oil and flush the radiator. Might get new spark plugs as well. |
Anyone for custom work on the dash for a double din to fit?

How cute, the battery is almost the same size as the engine block :)
JK man, good luck with your project. You stated that it is a 'non turbo', so that leads me to believe that these actually had a turbo option?? I had no idea there could be turbo Caprii out on the road. |
HAHA someone has jokes lol
Ya it was called the XR2, but I might try to put a mazda rotary engine in. All depends on what happens in a year. Thats another cool thing about this car not many around! |
OUt of curiosity whats the paint code on the door jam?
|
good luck on the project!

Ya tomorrow after oil change and removing the stale fuel I am going to wash it twice, clay, than two coats of wax. Should come out well.
Also going to install new spark plugs. |

Well I got it!
The big thing was a big split in the intake hose after patching that and holding my foot down for it to warm up it found its idel speed and was fine! Now correct me if I am wrong but rough cold warm ups and than running smooth after warm up means the pvc valve? http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_MVI_0546.jpg After wash http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0543.jpg Scrubbed the top down before and after http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0544.jpg Clayed and waxed http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0545.jpg http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0547.jpg |

I think I will just have to wait.

I definitely want to see how this plays out. Looking really good.
Can we get some more interior pics? What was the condition of the interior? I just looked up the MSRP of it brand new....13k!!! Haha! |
The interior of the car when I started was moldy in some spots but not all over and not over running the car. After a can of carpet cleaner and a scrub brush the mold was gone and after a half day in nice weather opened up everything was dried out. Nothing was soaked with water or anything just damp from being closed for 5 years. The dash turned out looking great with its deep dark black look that looks better than my civic's. I will get more pictures when I go over to open it back up today including one with the top up which is now cleaned. There are black spots all over it but they are very light. I was reading on a RV forum that they make a spray that will take care of that so i will get that today as well. I am also going to see what it does cold when I go over today. We took duct tape and sealed the crock up well on the intake just until I get the new part. If it does not want to start right up I will go get a pvc valve I believe.
If anyone was wondering about the wheels here is what I had in mind. Elbrus I05 Silver Machined w/Ice Coating |

http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0554.jpg The dash just needs to be scrubbed a bit more and the spots will come out. http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0555.jpg http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0556.jpg Not much space for speakers http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0557.jpg Rear seats not bad for leg room http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0558.jpg http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0559.jpg Hide away top http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0560.jpg Rear speakers http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0561.jpg The trunk http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0562.jpg http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/IMG_0563.jpg |
