You should wrap the kicks if at all possible.....If you don't wrap and continue to paint, you need to use what is called "icing" to touchup the imperfections in the bondo.

Oh yeah, glad the car is automatic.........no room for a clutch pedal with those kicks

If you go with mdf and water hits that they will swell up like a sponge. Plywood is much better to go with for a floor. Subs are clear from the floor the plywood does not even get close to the woofer.
