2020 Toyota Camry TRD

2 Attachment(s)
Found a daily driver that feeds my fancy for speed, sports car sound with 4 doors and can haul a family of 5.

3 Things you look for a Sports Car. 1. Fast 2. Reliable 3. Affordable

Toyota bag the grandma Camry to a Sports Sedan!

I wish it has better bolstering of the seats to make it complete.
Same v6 engine with the Lotus Evora minus the supercharger!

Great choice.

Someone on the 4C forum bought one a few months back as a DD. He loves his.

Enjoy it!

Zoren 370 03-29-2020 03:21 PM

Im loving it too... cheapest way to get into a V6 Camry with added TRD suspension set up and aero kit.

Toyota leaves everything to aftermarket tuning and Supercharging!

Same engine in a Lotus Evora.

Fun car! I love the rear spoiler not for Downforce since its front wheel.
Trd said it for stability. Whatever!!!

But not too ricey my opinion! Well done.

I saw one for the first time the other day and I did like the looks. It looks almost Acura-ish from the front

:iagree: Toyota did a good job in putting this up. Cheapest way to get the V6.

4K cheaper than the XSE.

XSE....Leave the tech updates and interior features to the grandma.

The TRD is for the boys!

Well maybe Lexus-ish not Acura!

But thats my opinion. Either way man if you get a chance get this TRD

Only 6.5K units production in the US

I would have picked the KIA Stinger GT instead, at least it's not a Failed Wheel Drive ;)

Kia Stinger and the Camry TRD

Are no apples to apples comparison.

But I would hate be found dead driving a Kia.

Dont get me wrong They are nice cars with great reviews but not for 45K to 50K price point.

I’ll get kia Soul for less 10k used... and beat it till it screams
Banzai!!!

cossie1600 04-21-2020 07:26 PM

Wait what, the Camry is 45K?

Nevermind, the Kia you meant

They're comparable as mid-size sedans (Stinger is actually a 5-door hatchback). Priced roughly the same after discount (got my '18 GT RWD with a discount of 23% MSRP). I can't do FWD (and most AWD) anymore, it pisses me off.

The only downfall with Stinger is its own brand, most people are like you when it comes to Stinger. If you ever read about the people behind Stinger development and if you ever drove one, you might understand why I have said that it's a German car.

JARblue 04-22-2020 10:43 AM

Is it just me or does anyone else pronounce TRD as "turd" in their head? I just can't wrap my head around buying a Toyota "turd" :ugh: :icon17:

I highly doubt you got your 18 Stinger at 31K out the door!

If you did...that proves my point Kia would never keep a dime of their resale value. Thats why people dont like them specially to people who change cars every 2-3 years.

Hey I wouldn't argue with your last statement Kia hired the top designers and engineers of BMW to design the Stinger! Thats a fact. I dont need to drive ...I know its one of the best performing cars out there.

But for Kia to give you a 23% off msrp pre pandemic situation? I’ll be concerned.

But if you value your investment ( hard earned money)would you put your money on a Rolex or a Seiko watch?

Its not I hate the Kia brand..,Like I said Im actually considering of buying my daughter a kia Soul or mini cooper for less than 10K.

But I wouldn’t invest my 50K on a Kia stinger! Unless you plan to keep it till the life of the car..then you did hit Gold!

Zoren 370 04-22-2020 12:20 PM

Toyota/Lexus lives and breathes with the Japanese word “Kaizen”

Means continuously improving or perfecting.

There mantra in the car industry you do it right the first time... that was the mistake of Kia....now they try to redeem themselves buy hiring the top German designers and engineers.

Toyota never did that or the Japanese in general they hated foreign intervention thus Carlos Ghon is ousted. But that is Nissan.

My point reputation and brand loyalty is very big in the car industry.
Toyota was even actually forgiven by the Americans and stuck with the brand even after the pedal sticking issue.

People still buy Toyota....that is deep powerful Brand name!

If only VW hasn’t bought Porsche and Audi....Toyota is still # 1 in the word. Now they are 2nd to VW.

For how long I dont know...

cossie1600 04-22-2020 01:09 PM

Toyota is relying a lot on their brand to sell cars. If you think about it, half their fleet were designed from the last recession. Can you believe they are still selling 4Runner, LandCruiser, Sequoia that were designed from the last recession. Parts are also common between cars, they don't even try to hide that. With that said, I still recommend their hybrids if you can't have a full EV car. I just wish they would go into the EV world and make their design less quirky.

Zoren 370 04-22-2020 01:26 PM

One thing with the Toyota they take time before the make any changes!

Even with there radio for goddesses sake they only started having apple car play and andriod compatible radio only this 2020 selected models.

That really frustrates me about Toyota..to them if it works they will not change it.

That is why having the Turd in a Camry line up and Avalon surprised me.

Maybe they are looking at Nissan putting nismo badges even on a bicycle! Lol

The 4runner’s and sequoias are old school and yet selling! Your right!

They will believe me...they just practicing Kaizen principle do it right the first time before release!

They are getting much data with WEC Toyota hybrid race car.
Too bad Porsche and Audi wouldn’t want the world to see that they got beat by the Japs. They both bailed out of WeC

But both Porsche and Audi went ahead with full EV platform.

My wife has had her 2011 4runner since new. It has 135,000 trouble free miles. Still drives and looks like new. Dealerships are asking more than half of what she paid 9 years ago.

At the same time I know someone with a much newer KIA. It has been nothing but trouble for him. I got in it the other day and the outside door handle broke off in my hand. It's got half the miles and drive like a beater.

When I was as marketing specialist in one pharmaceutical company one of my boss is a sports car fanatic. I remember him bashing Kia brand as the worst car ever created in mankind.

He said it would even stop on the road once it runs over a piece of bubble gum on the road! That was 20 years ago...I still remember it to this day!

My 2018’ LE is coming up on 50k & has averaged nearly 40mpg. since inception,,,on the cheap gas :ugh2:

My mom is getting 60mpg on her Prius Prime without charging. It's not a bad car, but definitely not inspiring to drive or anything

Toyota definitely gets forgiven a lot.
They have had their share of issues - from the sudden acceleration/stuck pedal issues, to the airbag (not their fault) recalls, to seatbelt issues. One of the biggies right now is every Tacoma (that hash!t been stolen by terrorists) made from 2011 to 2017 is being recalled to examine whether the frame is rusting through. I’ve been at my local dealership and have seen a couple on hoists, getting a full skeleton replacement.

I have to give them credit for addressing this, unlike Nissan which would just flip the middle finger in typical half-French fashion and turn away.

But that is hardly “getting it right the first time”. Rust is not a new phenomenon, nor is building around it particularly high tech or an unknown science.

And if anyone is pointing at Toyota for selling 10-year-old platforms, what forum is this again? ;-)

cossie1600 05-10-2020 11:48 PM

The Tacoma is sold out in a lot of places now. I am not sure if it is a good thing or bad thing.

The rusted frame issue. The local dealer has one bay set-up just for doing this. They have 2 techs that this is their only job. They knock out 2 trucks a week. There is a stack of new and rusted frames sitting behind the building, out of sight, and they have the stacks covered with tarps.

Toyota doesn't do recalls or anything like that if they can do it. What they do is what is called a silent campaign. They won't tell you anything unless you ask about it. You bring to vehicle in for service. If the is any TSB, recalls, or anything else. They will do it without telling you. My daughter's BF was a service manager for a dealership and he told me what goes on behind the curtain. Toyota hides a lot.

That is correct my Tundra had a cam tower oil leak is is very common issue among the 5.7 V8 engine. Its a simple issue of the robot that makes the engine doest place sealant on the upper manifold causes leaks.

Called Toyota USA and complained about it, my truck is 2012 with expired warranty. Toyota took care of it had the job done for free. They should have called a recall on this but they didn’t. They fix as you complain about it silently.

The expense for parts is $9 and labor cost was $2.5K took 2 days to finish.

Tacomas, 3rd, 4th, and even the current 5th gen 4runners suffer the frame rusting from the inside out excessively issue. Also, the control arm mounting points rust and fail prematurely as well. There are recalls on the older tacos, but they shy away from acknowledging the 4Runner frame rust issues. At least on the 5th gens. I think they might’ve stepped up for the fourth gens

Toyota apparently cannot make a fully boxed steel ladder frame correctly to save their life.

The current tacoma v6 engine/6at is apparently a huge fail as well, tried to get more fuel efficient than the old 4.0 v6/5at (that’s still used in current 4Runner), but ended up with a turd that needs a regear from stock 4.10s with 32’s to 5.13’s just to run 33’s adequately and a lot of folks even regear a stock tired truck bc it sucks so bad.

Even tho I’m a Jeep guy, it does bum me out bc there are almost no real suvs left except the wrangler and the 4Runner and the yota already half sucks due to the ifs but at least it still retains the sra and a real transfer case, body on rusty frame etc.

The Xterra was a good rig, very underrated, the first gen was actually the perfect size and more off-road oriented, the second gen went a bit into the soccer mom appeal to much, or at least tried to.
