In Alfa nomenclature, “C” cars are a special class and the product plan only had one specialty vehicle. Not sure why they decided to bring the 8C name back, but it has some traction from the recent model, and with the described drive train it should be an amazing performer.

GTv’s of yore have been no slouches, but not supercar class. More of a volume category. Think Camaro if you want a comparison. If Alfa wants to hit its goas of moving 400,000 units a year (was first projected for this year, but in typical Italian fashion now delayed to 2022), it cannot afford to mess around with too many specialty, low volume cars.

The 4C was a real gift to autophiles. Baby supercar looks and numbers for a moderate luxury car price, and they probably lost money on every one they moved. But it got the marque noticed after a generation away from these shores and a decade of milquetoast models like MiTo in the rest of the world. Unfortunately, that kind of treat is few and far between - bad news for future buyers but something very special to those who have one. I know of a few 370Z owners here who have taken the plunge or are looking to do so. Expect the upcoming lineup to be market-priced.
