Default Thoughts on srt4?

Hey guys so here's where I'm coming from..
Moved in with the g/f back in February and she is now driving my cooper S which is fine I don't mind. So I've been thinking about getting a new daily/winter car. Was wondering if any fellow Z owners have had any experience owning an srt4 or know anyone that does. I looked at one the other day just under 200 000 kms (not miles ya I'm from Canada lol) guy said he would take $2400 and the main issue is some rust on the driver side rear that would need taking care of. Took it for a long test drive and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it actually.

Thoughts?

I owned one before the Z and loved every mile in it. My brother owns it now and drives it daily except during winter. They were a great car to mod and making power was pretty easy and cheap.

I owned one prior to the Z as well. Easy to work on, parts are cheap, and it was a fun little car.

Yeah, except they are butt-ugly Dodge Neons! Come on you can't be serious. As the saying goes... you can't make a race horse out of a donkey no matter how much money you throw at it ( or in this case, how much power).

No disrespect to anyone. Just my opinion.

I always thought they looked badass from the front - especially with a big old front mount intercooler staring back at you.

They are fun little cars, just be careful they are known for very weak transmissions. It's rare to find a used one with a good trans.

Personally, I'd think that car's best miles are behind it. That's a lot of clicks for a North American small car. I've never had luck with older, high mileage vehicles from this continent, other than Dodge Caravans (and that's probably not on your radar!). It's not a lot of money, but I cannot help thinking that the purchase price will be the tip of the iceberg for this one.

Obviously, I don't know the car in question, and perhaps it was only driven around the corner to church on Sunday by a little old lady....

That is my concern.. I may end up throwing too much money at it just to maintain it.. the owner used it for his work business going on road trips of up to 5 hours at a time

Well, cars do better when they are driven, and highway miles are believed to be easier on a vehicle than city stop-go, but the car has how many Ontario winters behind it (correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the model 10+ years old?)? So, everything from brake and fuel lines to rad to body & subframe have been marinated in brine for a long time. I guess you could nick-name it "the gherkin". Is it green? ;-). That's on top of any mechanical weakness it may be developing.

I hate to try to dissuade you, but this is the voice of some experience.

Honestly, if you're keeping your Z it doesn't really matter. With that said I'd probably get a little civic or something that I know wasn't abused like a race car. More reliable, probably cheaper to own. Turbos are expensive to replace if it ever gives out.
