Crash 11-30-2009 06:33 AM

My Z06 just got totaled. :(

Well, the title says it all. I was coming home from a night out at the bars and stuff... It was actually a good night. I met up with some friends, and we had a ****ing good time.

Anyway, 2:10am, I'm heading through the White Oak / Victory intersection and I see a cross over heading very fast from the left, not stopping. I slammed my breaks, but it was too late. I got hit from the side. We're not sure if she was asleep at the wheel, but she had no idea what happened.

Well, she didn't have a license, but somehow she had insurance. Have no idea if it's real or not, but she was crying and I was staying as calm as possible. Cops asked me if I'd been drinking, I said yeah, but after the field sobriety tests and the breathalyser, I passed with flying colors.

So, the damage is total. The entire front end of my car is tweaked off to the right side of the car by about 2-3 inches. Frame is totally tweaked. The driver's side front wheel was only being held on by the steering rack and sway bar; control arms and a-arms were snapped completely. Both air-bags deployed which is interesting cause I didn't even see it happen, but noticed it when I was trying to get out of the car. (Smelled like the car was on fire thanks to the air bags...) And the driver's side door is completely off the frame, could only open the door by the inside. Not sure what the outside panel is hanging on by.

OK... Time for the pics:

TX_370 11-30-2009 06:36 AM

Im sorry to hear that crash!

Atleast everyone is okay though, cars can be replaced.

SOLISIMO 11-30-2009 06:36 AM

Fock man Im glad your ok, by looking at those pics it couldve been worse

LiquidZ 11-30-2009 06:51 AM

That's hard to look at. Glad you are ok.

370Zsteve 11-30-2009 07:49 AM

Glad to she didn't hit you square in the door, you might not be here to tell the tale. :icon14:

I foresee a nice replacement vehicle in your future. :icon17:

The bright side? Your ID is now 100% legit, Crash!

WhiskeyHotel 11-30-2009 07:52 AM

Ouch! I'm glad everyone is O.K.

kdo2milger 11-30-2009 07:56 AM

glad to here you made it through that! those pics look pretty bad...was anyone with you?

did they check the other driver for alcohol?

hazzazi 11-30-2009 08:01 AM

sorry for your loss, and glad your okay.. hopefully you will get a much better car in the near future...

Division 11-30-2009 08:03 AM

Its a good thing you slammed on your brakes, had you not noticed, she would have hit you square in the driver's side door. Glad to hear your okay.

nogoodname 11-30-2009 08:11 AM

Crash, it's a sign to buy a Z

good thing everyone is alright

Crash 11-30-2009 08:19 AM

Yeah. The hit was only 2 inches from my door. You guys are right, if I didn't hit my brakes as soon as I did, I may have been in the hospital right now.

I don't think they checked her for alcohol, but she didn't look like she was under anything. (But who am I to judge, right?) Either way, we think she fell asleep at the wheel. No skid marks at all from her car and she doesn't recall anything that happened.

My nick name has been Crash since 2004. This is the 8th one since. Only 2 were my fault. The rest were people hitting me. I got my nick name running into a mountain side while driving too fast through the canyons. Oh well. LOL

Corvettes have great crash ratings. So I'll likely get another. The pictures really don't do the damage justice believe it or not... It took them a good hour to get everything out of the street. Lots and lots of big pieces of car all over the road. When my car was finally on the flat bed, there was a LOT of misc parts from under the hood all over the floor where my car was.

semtex 11-30-2009 08:20 AM

Dude this is awful. I'm glad you're okay though. You still might want to get yourself checked out though if you haven't already.

vipor 11-30-2009 08:22 AM

that really blows man, sorry to hear. hope her insurance is real heh.

dszombiex 11-30-2009 09:25 AM

I love it when crap cars wreck nice cars.

Glad to hear you're ok. Hope someone pays for a nice new car for you.

Gotta love driving in the Valley!

shumby 11-30-2009 09:31 AM

Crash you know you don't really have to live up to your screen name.

Glad you are ok

AK370Z 11-30-2009 09:52 AM

Hey man,
I am very glad you're okay. It looks pretty bad. Did you go to hospital afterward for checking or did you deny any medical necessity?

Good luck with everything. C6s are going for pretty cheap. Maybe we can find you one.

Trips 11-30-2009 09:59 AM

Sorry to hear that, and good to hear your ok
that vette was really nice, what a shame.

racerxj17 11-30-2009 10:19 AM

sorry to hear about that. what a small world. i was assigned your traffic accident but then a pursuit for a robbery suspect (130+ down woodley in a police car, ******* nuts!!! **** head had two babies in the back in car seats too) came out so i wasnt able to respond. crazy eh?

Obviously, i work in west valley.....

koeppelnissan 11-30-2009 05:52 PM

Sorry to hear about your Vette. I never looked at their crash test ratings, but fiberglass cars never look too good after getting hit! ZR1 next?

Thanks. That screen name was definitely earned. I hit a mountain side going to fast through the canyons with my Trans Am. LOL

I'm doing ok... Just a gash on the side of my foot. No biggie.

I'm going to buy another C5 Z06. Lots of the C6 guys that C5Zs have been selling their C6s because they're too tame. The C5s have a more raw feeling to them. And honestly, they look better to me. I'll move up to a C6 when I can afford a 2009+ Z06. :)

Yeah, actually, the cops that were still on the scene jumped in their car, warned the tow truck driver about the pursuit and then boned out really fast down white oak. They left their cones which are still sitting on the side walk. That's definitely crazy. I saw at least 6 cops in 2 minutes including CHP go through that intersection.

Interestingly enough, the car isn't fiberglass. They stopped using fiberglass on the C5s. They use a new material called MPC which is "molded plastic composite"... Although it does seem to break like fiberglass, but it's a lot lighter and easier to fix. (Not like I'm getting this car back anyway. LOL)

ChrisSlicks 11-30-2009 08:07 PM

Wow, poor car. Glad you're ok.

I just don't understand how people think it is acceptable to drive without a license, kind of amazed she had insurance.

frost 11-30-2009 08:23 PM

Like the other people said, glad to see you're okay, hard to imagine after looking at the pics.

Actually, me too. I was shocked she had insurance. While I was standing by the cop answering questions, I was thinking "Damn, I bet I'm going to be paying for this myself."

NYBladeZ 11-30-2009 09:17 PM

Sorry man I know the feeling when someone robs you of something you care about (04 mustang GT totalled by a drunk driver) but you're here to tell the tale. Get checked out getting hit that hard can have effects not readily noticeable and it's all on her insurance anyway. I 2nd calls for a GTR

MightyBobo 11-30-2009 09:40 PM

That'll buff out.

Glad you're ok man, had a bit of an incident not long ago with my 370 that was a bit scary, but thankfully damage was minor and she's getting fixed as I type this.

Guess the Z06 just wasnt quite in your stars :(

StLRedrider 11-30-2009 09:44 PM

sorry to hear about your vette, atleast your ok.

koeppelnissan 12-02-2009 09:14 AM

HAHA... I don't have the money for one, but thanks! I owed 16K on the car and I should be getting about 31-32K back total, so I should have about 16K to play with which will practically get me another Z06 cash. LOL That's a bargain to me.

LOL! Comedy...

No idea what the adjuster is going to say for the total. But I insured everything on the car, including the wheels which are $5K wheels. :) So at least 27-28K for the car (at the minimum otherwise I'm fighting it) and 5K for the wheels.

CrownR426 12-03-2009 08:29 PM

Well at least your alive and well!
Looks like someone's going to be getting a 370z SOON!

I thought about it, actually. I'd have a 16-18K down payment. But I think I'm going to stick to the Z06. After driving both the Z34 and the Z06, I can't deny how amazing it feels. The Z34 feels really good and solid. It drives really well, and you don't need to wait for the power to get going... But the Z06 pulls like a freight train all the way through the power band and really keeps you in your seat. Handling seems about even between the two, and the interior on the Z34 is a bit nicer. But the Z06 IMO looks a bit more aggressive and gets 5-10MPG more. LOL
