hey do u guys know if there is any ill effects of having the TPMS light come on? Like not being able to disable stability control and stuff like that?

I ask because im getting new tires wrapped on my prodrives this weekend and dont want to install TPMS sensors unless i really need to. i dont care about the error light coming on.

on my honda fit, my car wont allow me to turn off stability control when the TPMS light is on.. :ugh:

kenchan 02-18-2016 09:40 AM

no one? :ugh:

:icon17: i should get the programmer.. but since it appears there is no ill effects from the TPMS being on, besides the error light, i think im just going to get the standard valves installed on the prodrives as i can't see myself going to the dealer back and forth each time i swap wheels.

I will use the prodrives for a few months and then swap back to the factory wheels.

they arrived today and already have an appointment on saturday to get them wrapped with DWS06. :p last big trip on my Fit before its sold, i suppose. kind of bittersweet.

Niche79 02-19-2016 02:14 AM

Id get the TPMS but thats just me.

kenchan 02-21-2016 05:54 PM

got the prodrives installed. its running 245/40/18 DWS06.

i pulled my back in the process though... i was done with only once side of the car. now limping like an old fart. :ugh:
i didnt injure my back while i was handling the wheels...but when i went to picked up my little 3lbs air pump. :ugh2:

my wife and kids helped me install the other side; even cleaned the STI wheels and stacked them up on my tire dolly. :woot:

despite the limp i was determined to go out on a test drive. :p
will run these for a few months and as soon as temps are over 50F going to run the STI wheels and tires.

Niche79 02-24-2016 01:17 AM

ouch, just reaching 50? It was mid 80s today! Clear bra is a MUST! That will be setup day 1 I purchase my car this summer, also, tinting is one of my first items too:)

kenchan 02-24-2016 09:54 AM

50F? no today it's like 35F. lol

yep, xpel ultimate for the bumper. the WRX's nose is pretty high so i decided to just to get the bumper done for now. i might do the hood later on my own, but too cold to do it in my non-heated garage at the moment. tint is getting applied today as well. :excited: im just hoping my car dont get dinged while parked at their shop..

if the guy does well, going to bring my G in later this Spring to get her tinted too.

kenchan 02-24-2016 09:55 AM

.. not dat i dont know how to do PDR. :p

Niche79 02-25-2016 01:05 AM

I usually tint cars the first month I own them. Wherever you live it must be cold, definitely not here in Florida. I have one of those half bras on my 370z and I have had one or two rocks sneak past the line and chip the paint! I will not make that mistake with the STI, it has to have a full bra covering the entire hood!

Well, show us some pics whenever you get time!

kenchan 02-25-2016 09:31 AM

i got the clearbra and tint done yesterday. guy did great. i need to wait for it to dry a few more days before i wash the car, then ill take some snaps. :D it's about 30F this week where im at going up to maybe upper 40's by the weekend.. but then going back down for more snow next week. :ugh:

next on the list are matte black stainless plate frames coming in tomorrow, hopefully.. followed by getting a blendmount for my V1. im still thinking about getting some sort of cradle for my iphone6s. the HK stereo sounds decent and nav is convenient, but the whole starlink system is slow and meh.. id still get the nav and HK if i was to buy again, but if you're thinking about upgrading the stereo, might as well just get the base STI and a nice cradle for your phone.

kenchan 02-25-2016 07:11 PM

alright, placed order for the blend mount and mirror wire thingie for my V1. :p

also got a KENU sp? phone mount thing for the vent on order. while the HK sounds fine, starlink imho is a pos and i rather just have my iphone6s out to do my calendar appointments, quick tasks like check weather radar, and go through music albums. :rofl2:

i yanked off the prodrive metal center cap (54mm) decal to reveal a nice dark finished plastic cap dat matches the anthracite very nicely. :p

going to see if i can source a STI decal..

Time for those pics, we had a great weekend here, cant belive this week is going to be March and the rumors of any new changes will be known by the NY Auto show at the end of the month. Very stoked, I will have to get my order in ASAP. Your out there modding up a storm and I just ordered my baby seat for our future son for my car, a Recaro baby seat:) haha It should be here in a few days but with the Babies R Us massive sale, we just traded in a 12 dollar used baby thing and got 30% off of anything new. They had to order it as they don't carry Recaro in stores but super pumped, got it in blue too:)

thats cool. sold our recaro young sports since our kids out grew them, and the younger kid is almost big enough to out grow his recaro vivo booster. :D

definitely get the infant carrier stroller. those things are SUPER handy. just locks into the stroller like it does in the reverse facing infant seat base for your car.

i opened up the STI a little more this weekend (still break-in mode) and this thing is fun to drive! :D

kenchan 02-29-2016 11:04 AM

hope to get my blend mount today. :D

I can't find a seller who has a smallish STI decal for my center caps. i see dat there are folks selling 56mm metal caps but those are too big. i just want a red "STI" sticker about 40mm in width since the cap is 54mm diameter. but even without the decals the wheels look SO much better with the plain black caps vs the prodrive silver caps.

tonythetiger 02-29-2016 02:34 PM

nice job, i feel like theres a lot of sti badges on the car but thats just me.
I just bought the JDM grille and OEM STI front lip, planning to install it later this week and possibly debadge rear emblems. Ill keep yall posted with pics

true, my wife said the same thing while she and my kids were helping me swap the wheels on one side the other week while i crawled on the driveway like a racoon dat just gotten run over by a UPS truck. :rofl2: she said STI everywhere. :icon17:

is dat the grill with the red line? if so dat's kinda cool.
i too ordered the STI front splitter the other day. :D hope to get it soon.

kenchan 02-29-2016 02:58 PM

never mind, i saw the JDM grill sold at subispeed. :)

i like the simplicity.

kenchan 03-01-2016 01:18 PM

hey, i got my tracking for the STI lip today. :D hope to install it sunday.

btw, i really like the throttle modes on the car.. like this am i was wearing my foot numbing snow boots so [I] was perfect, with my regular driving shoes [S] mode is real nice. haven't really played with [S+] as im still breaking in the car.

Already ahead of you on the stroller that clicks in! We bought a graco one and a second base for my car till he's big enough to fit into the Recaro seat. We have heard many good stories about those so bought one of those just for that reason since all we needed was a second base. Well, as of today, we are a month to go till she is due so time is flying. By then we should know what's going on with the new STI for '17 as I expect all news to drop at the NY auto show at the end of the month!

kenchan 03-02-2016 09:32 AM

yep, those things are handy especially while shopping at the mall where u dont have shopping carts to place ur infant carrier.

my splitter should be in my hands by tomorrow. :woot:

kenchan 03-03-2016 01:42 PM

you guys ever try the aha app on ur HU? i tried it this am for the first time..wow, sounds like crap. :icon08: it almost sounds like the HU is using lower resolution like 64kbps? vs me streaming through my home component system. not sure... at least i can hear some jpop i guess. :rofl2: pandora (im on pandora-one 192kbps) sounds so much nicer. :D

i didn't even know aha's existence until recently..

wife's waiting for the fedex guy for me. lip should be in shortly. :excited:

kenchan 03-03-2016 06:02 PM

Got my STI lip... will install over the weekend. :D

btw, i learned the Starlink voice commands a little more and been using it on a daily basis... it's not bad!

if not, will work on it tomorrow followed by a wash.

kenchan 03-05-2016 12:14 PM

kenchan 03-07-2016 11:04 AM

nice job. :D that grill makes the front end cleaner.

on the splitter, while i followed the instructions to use small to large drill bits, it occurred to me AFTER doing the work dat i had a 3/8 forstner bit. would've gone so much faster. lol

did u actually tape up the template per instruction? i just lined up the template and marked using an awl.

tonythetiger 03-09-2016 09:46 AM

thanks man! super easy to install.

I actually did put tape on the template, i wasnt too sure how the fitment was going to be, so it took a long time but well worth it.

kenchan 03-09-2016 03:55 PM

Cool. Any more upgrades coming up? :D

kenchan 03-11-2016 07:04 PM

i swapped to the stock enkei's on my STI today and gave it a wash. :D i have fans running in the garage for 4hrs now. i cant run my dehumidifier yet as temp is too cold at 50F.. thing will freeze.

will do the first detail sunday. mainly want to rid the residue from the protective film on the roof.. car has a faint line where the border was. going to use Griot's One-Step Sealant on the top surfaces and the rear bumper/trunk/wing.

the other panels not sure if i'm going to use any special sealant besides the Prima Hydro i've been using after each wash. thing is very strong for a mist and wipe. will do a light check for any swirls and decide to polish it or put some glaze.

will do a quick PDR on the driver door where noone can see but i can see a very minor ding about a size of a pea. :icon17: yah, i have professional training in PDR.

kenchan 03-13-2016 11:23 AM

So spent a good sat afternoon and this am detailing the STI. mang this car has pretty severe case of orange peel. :icon08: not dat i polished it all out since i plan to keep the car for 7-8yrs, i want to keep the clear as thick as possible for now.

i clayed and lightly polished the top surfaces as it had some swirls from the dealer.. applied polymer and cured it over night. this am finished off with some spray carnauba. looks great. :p but i honestly feel this car looks better kinda dirty..

Niche79 03-14-2016 04:06 AM

Question for you two, which Subaru forums do you use if anything? I just go to that NASIOC or whatever forum but there are very few guys in Florida which is VERY strange so I am guessing I am missing the big forum? Were 2 weeks away from the car show, just waiting to see what is announced!
