I imagine the owner before me had an aftermarket stereo in the car, and put the stock one in for resale. Anyhow, taking apart the center console, it appears the owner had spilled coffee into the radio, and was causing a grounding short, and thus the power drain. Replacing the stereo with my Kenwood Excelon DNX9140 did the trick. Looks great in the car too.
I was gonna say, when my PC was hit by a power surge it would pop the speakers every few seconds (even though it was powered off)... sounds like something was shorted out. Replacement is your best/only option.
