Just got a speeding ticket
speeding 95 in a 55 zone
Does anyone have any idea that how much will i have to pay for the ticket or i have ended up to go to court??? should i get a lawer to get rid of it ? or just pay for it? coz i dont want my insurence raise up. |
did he write you down for 95? if so, get a lawyer.
|
Ouch, around this area 40 over the speed limit would land you in a world of hurt. I definitely would seek out an attorney. Good luck.
|
Get a lawyer. Who cares about the fine, it's the points that will kill you as far as insurance. Just for fun, I looked at the judiciary web site here in Maryland, and found a guy who was clocked at 101 in a 55. He ended up with a fine just over $500. If convicted and you get the points, you'll pay many times that in additional insurance.
Ya might wanna also think about slowing down before you kill yourself or someone else. ;-) |
Not sure about NJ, but in MA it's $10 for every mph over the limit. So you could be looking at a fine upwards of $400 for the ticket, not to mention points added to your insurance. I'd get a lawyer.
|
You're lucky he let you leave with your car instead of in cuffs...
|
You have some work to do - Kyle Bush's ticket was for 108 in a 40. ;)
+1 on the lawyer. This is "Go directly to jail. Do not pass GO and do not collect $200." territory in Oklahoma. |
For NJ
The DMV will assess two, four, or five points to a driver for a speeding conviction. This is entirely dependent as to how fast the driver was traveling. If a driver was speeding up to 14 mph over the limit, then he will receive 2 points. If the driver was traveling between 15-19 mph over the limit, then he will receive four points. Five points are assessed if a driver is speeding 30 mph over the limit. Quite often if a driver receives a 5-point ticket, then the judge will suspend their license. Also fines are doubled for speeds over 20mph over the posted limit. Did you also receive a wreckless driving summons? If not, you're really lucky. If you did, that would be an additional 5 points on top of the possible 5 you would get for speeding. |
Bro if this is in NJ its 5 points and they can suspend your DL. Get a lawyer

Down here...well, it'd be bad |
You could have been put in cuffs, That is reckless driving. Does the ticket say you have to go to court? Just to give you an idea I got a 85 in a 55 about 4 years ago. The fine was only about $190 but I got 6 points on my lincense and had to pay $300 over the course of 3 years. Good luck BRO.

better invest in a radar detector after this lol (because i have the feeling that youre not the type to slow down)

but definately go get a lawyer. You'll end up paying way more in insurance and risking losing your license with out it. Also, arent radar detectors illegal? If you get one make it stealth, dont wanna add more summonses if you happen to get stopped again. Good luck with it all! |

Here is what I got for the ticket! Can anyone suggest me a lawyer for me please??? |

My worst was 85 in a 50 though I was only going 75. Not much better but still the ticket was damn near illegible. And they let me plead to the some other no point charge but with a ridiculous fine 500 plus 200ish every year for 3yrs. IMO the state loves to make money and could care less about points. Pay them enough and they will change any infraction.

I noticed your location says Seattle to New Jersey. Is your car registered in NJ? Regardless a good lawyer might be able to get the ticket reduced...

Get any decent lawyer. Talk to friends. Go to court. Accept plea deal with no points on license if possible. Hightail it back to Washington pronto the roads are so much nicer than NJ. :tiphat:

FYI most radar detectors would not give you enough notice to go from 95 down to anything reasonable by the time you are clocked... maybe you could get to 80 but your still in a good amount of hurt for that.
The law used to be 1 pt for anything over state lines regardless of the infraction... not sure if that has changed though. |
if the radar detector picks the signal up fast enough it will....ive had that scenario happen multiple times. ive never gotten a ticket since i got a detector, and, beleive me, I speed every day

Reciprocity; States that report traffic tickets to your home state
The Interstate Drivers License Compact (DLC) requires member states to report tickets received by motorist to the state where they received a license to drive so as to receive points and get an insurance hike. Also when a state suspends the license of a driver who is from out-of-state, the state where the motorist received a license to drive will also suspend their license as well. States not members of the Drivers License Compact: •Georgia •Massachusetts •Wisconsin •Michigan •Tennessee Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Wisconsin will report tickets to your home state even though they are not members of the compact. Non-Resident Violator Compact (NVRC) requires member states to suspend the drivers license of those who get traffic tickets for moving violations in other states and fail to pay them. The compact is not suppose to include non-moving violations such as expired inspection stickers, equipment violations such as window tinting or parking violations. A member state may choose to voluntarily suspend a license of a person who does not pay an out-of-state ticket for an equipment violation such as loud exhaust. States not members of the Non-Resident Violator Compact (NVRC) are •Alaska •California •Montana •Oregon •Wisconsin •Michigan |
okay....so i need a detector and a lawyer right now and who can give me some advices for the detector and the lawyer?
|
as to the detector: passport 8500x50 or 9500, or a valentine
as to the lawyer...im no help |

Keep in mind a radar detector will only be helpful if you know how to use it properly. Sometimes they can give a false sense of security...Research how they work etc
If it were me I'd get the V1. |

alot of people say the valentine, especially because of its compact size as opposed to the passports. but i had a 8500x50 and now have a 9500, and i can tell you that passport r usually cheaper used. around here you can usually get an 8500x50 for around $120. ive never had issues.

I'd personally go with the "let's relax on the speeding instead of searching for a radar detector at least until you get through this mildly serious traffic ticket".
You could be looking at some major fines at the very least. I've been hit for $200+ for being around 15-20 over... I'd guesstimate you're looking easily in the 400-500 range plus court costs plus lawyer fees. Not trying to act more holy than thou (like I said I have a moderate amount of tickets over my lifetime, I'm just saying this might get worse before it gets better and searching for the $200+ excuse to keep speeding isn't the most responsible way to go at the moment IMO. Also I don't think they are illegal in NJ unless the law has changed in the last 5 years or so. You're only hope at this point is pleeding guilty to a non-moving violation... believe it is called impeding the flow of traffic or unsafe operation of a motor vehicle (varies) which carries no points but the fines are significantly higher... also you only get 3 of these over your lifetime. Shouldn't affect insurance but again you are easily talking 500-1000 in fines but no loss of license or points. Not sure if it has any maximum speed requirements though. |
