They won't. It's considered warranty work. If they don't do it, it's not covered.

Yep, shop's gotta get paid. If you make an appointment for first thing in the morning you shouldn't have to wait much longer that it'll take you to grab some coffee and free breakfast

just got the call, the springs came in. they asked if i wanted to set up an appt and i explained to them its a really quick swap out, so they just said to pull up to the service bay and they'll replace them on the spot, woo hoo!

EDIT Update: got the springs...they look just like the original ones. im slightly confused because the ones shown by others on the forum looked larger? the part number is the same one posted in the original post and so far they seem to work...the only way i can explain it is that they used the original housing, but replaced the springs with a stiffer set. i tested it a few times and it works so far, and now it takes an extra push to close the hatch, before it would just drop and shut.

for those that recently got the new springs, do yours look just like the originals or are they different?

wow....I didn't realize this thread has been around since 08-07-2009. I too have had this problem for some time. It started happening in the fall of 09. I just called my dealer and will be taking the car in this afternoon so they can take a look and order the new springs. I'll be taking a copy of the bulletin with me in case they try to be stubborn.

Q: If there is a service bulletin and if your car is still under warranty, they have to replace the defective part no matter what, right??

Technically no they do not, a TSB is Nissan HQ saying they see the problem as an issue and dealerships need to fix the problem without question if it does occur. If you cannot replicate the issue they can say no, but so far it seems most dealerships are on the side of fixing it.

^^ Right, that's why I have to take it in to confirm. Watch it miraculously work on the first try...haha...and them not replace the part at their expense....just my luck.

most folks have had pretty good luck with getting their svc dept to order the parts even if you can't recreate the issue right there.

i couldn't reproduce it the day i went, but since i had the printout of the tsb he was cool with it and ordered the springs.

Just got mine done!... Definitely not going to have any more issues... Pops up nicely everytime now!

I had a scheduled oil change so I called ahead hoping they'd order the parts so they could do both (since the hatch hasn't opened properly even once for several months). I didn't expect they would. And they wouldn't. Oh well.

When my wife brought it in they were unfamiliar with the issue. When shown the TSB the desk guy became condescending and patiently explained to her that these were only for cars having issues. That pissed her off. You don't want to piss her off. Long story short, he put his tail between his legs and ordered the parts. Now we wait . . .

vipor 02-20-2010 11:22 AM

Lol nice. Props to the wife for doing what had to be done

you know this happens to me sometimes.. I have to press the button like 2 or 3 times for it to completely open.. lately has not done it.. its weird.

Zdom 02-22-2010 11:13 AM

I took the suggestion someone else posted and started taking videos with my phone of the sticking so if it happened to not stick when at the dealers I would have proof that it does stick.

I went by the dealer and sure enough it opened right up with one push of the button. However, the dealer didn't even question it and just ordered the replacement. Will have it in this week for the installation.
