Have the dealership do an oil consumption test. My car failed the test in august. Their is a technical service bulletin about this oil problem. I had the short block of my engine replaced as a result. Don't worry, all covered under warranty.

I think in this situation he is way past that (Engine is shot) He is getting a new engine anyways he said.

It's either short block or whole engine. They haven't told me yet.

Either should solve your problem, if its oil consumption issues...

I understand where you're coming from. Either way I hope I don't get a new block or new engine that has less power than my current one. I've heard of some people with pretty low dyno numbers and that makes me a bit uneasy. Would be cool if I got a factory freak though. More importantly I want the car back with a well operating motor that doesn't eat oil in a relatively short period of time. Like by the end of this week.

I think it more likely that you have heard of people who went to mean dynos and nice dynos.

Good luck on the repair! Sounds like your dealer is being straight w/ you.

UPDATE!

Replacing short block under warranty. Will update with what happened and what broke. 4-5 days work.

Whole engine

Tell them to replace the whole engine!!! I KNOW Baker South has a complete engine from Nissan sitting in the service booth!!!

DEpointfive0 02-29-2012 04:03 PM

Oh, and another reason to buy the extended warranty, LOL

Why replace the whole engine when he's getting a short block?

DEpointfive0 02-29-2012 09:21 PM

Why not? It's free? And it will take less time for an engine swap... The Nissan book says 13.2 hours I think...

On another note, just checked my oil. Damn car hasn't used a drop of oil in 1500 miles, it's EXACTLY the same... I guess no new engine for me...

Because it comes down to money, and why waste a long block, when a short block will do the trick?
