Default 370Z MY 10 - Pop Up Hood light illuminating after a frontal impact

Hello 370Z Members,

My car had a minor frontal impact and it activated the pop up hood system, I took the car to a Nissan dealer in Australia to fix this system or to reset the activation.

The dealer advised me that the following parts has to be put into fix the Pop Up Engine Hood system.

* N/S/F Bumper Sensor
* O/S/F Bumper Sensor
* Front Bumper Reinforcement - Foam
* Front Bumper Reinforcement - Alloy
* O/S/F Bumper Slide
* N/S Bonnet Actuator
* O/S Bonnet Actuator
* N/S Bonnet Hinge
* O/S Bonnet Hinge

So I advised them to order the parts and once the parts arrived they took the car and tried to reset the pop up hood warning by installing the parts. Then they informed me there are still 2 error warning codes coming up after installing the above parts so they have to order 2 more parts to fix the repair, which are

* The Control Unit.
* Another front sensor.

There justification is that once the system is activated, its a once off use and the every part related to the pop up hood system has to be replaced.

This where I am bit confused, I thought the system is more than a once off usage. I understand replacing first set of parts are valid, but I feel they don't understand the overall system when they suggested that the control unit has to be replaced too .

Any thoughts on this issue ?

Replies are much appreciated,
Thank you very much

Regards.

What is a "pop up hood light"? You mean the red airbag light? Or do you mean the hood is open light?

Hood is open light has nothing to do with the airbags.

Airbag light is caused by the airbag control unit. Then front sensor can be reused by the control unit has to be replaced or professional reset.

? Maybe they can just clear the ECU of DTC codes? Is that the warning that is being tripped?

They tried to clear the code and reset the warning, but the pop up hood trip sign keeps coming back. This is because the pop up hood safety system was physically tripped from the frontal impact. This can physically trip without having significant bumper damage (This is the case in incident).

If this system activates, I am wondering is it a once off thing. I am not sure why they are replacing whole sensors and control unit associated to the pop up hood technology in the 370Z cars. Please see the Nissan link associated to this safety "Pop Up Hood Technology"

Any ideas or prior experiences are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

@modme : It is the hood is open red light, not the SRS air bag indicator. The Air bag control unit is working fine (No warning lights associated with the air bags). So it seems like they are going to place the front sensor and put a new control unit (They tried to reset it, but told me it failed).

@Triple's : Thanks for deleting the duplicate. I will upload some pics later, the impact wasn't that hard. no damage to front lights ,only the front bumper was slightly damaged. It seems like the control unit detected the impact power to exceed the trip limit so it executed the pop up hood system by firing the actuators. I was surprised by the sensitivity of this system. I more surprised that they have to put so many parts to replace and reset this technology
