Thought I had dodged this, but now I'm thinking I'll go get this done after all. Just the fuel sender? |
/\/\ yep. just go in with a 1/4 tank for them, it's easier to drop the tank...
I have a similar problem related to this. When I top off the tank, all lights will light up. When fuel starts to be used up, the dots starting from the right will go off as normal. When the first 2 dots goes off, the next dot to go off would be the third LED. However, what's been happening the last few fillups is that the third and fourth LED will go out at the same time.
Same thing happens intermittently to mine. I always top the tank off after the auto pump shut off. 3 different times, the last dot on the right didn't light up. Usually corrects itself after driving a while, then shutting off and restarting. Could be that the car isn't level when filling up?
Why worry about the top of the guage? It's the bottom, when it gets there, that needs attention.
Just curious, but how long does this repair take, and what are the odds of the problem happening again?
four pages on this thread, yet, NO one reporting this issue has gone to the dealer.. if it was happening to me, i would at least get it checked out and report was the issue could be.

wow! A colossal waste of time and effort! |

And... it's ridiculous to have a brand new car with this issue.
Also, if it's still under warranty, why not? I only didn't go before becuse I thought the problem was fuel additive related -- now I'm not so sure. It will be off by one after a fill-up, and then correct itself next day  |

I got my 370z nismo about a month ago. First filled it up at a shell and didnt notice the problem. Then have been using only Cheveron gas since and have noticed the light not on after the last two fill ups. Car only has just over 15k on it and is a 2009. I'm going to take my car in soon for some other concerns I have, does this have anything to do with the display also reading the incorrect "Miles to go" gauge? After my last fill up it never went above 200 miles left in the tank and I put more than 16 gallons in.
^^^ Yeah I think all of those computations are thrown off by this problem.
damn, seems like nissan just can't source a decent FSU (fuel sending unit). Our xterra has had it's FSU replaced once already under warrantee and apparantly it's a huge issue for the X's, Frontiers, Pathfinders. Didn't think it'd be an issue with the Z's too.
Knock on wood, so far no problems with our Z. |
im having this issue as well has anyone yet taken to dealer and how long was the repair i work full time and cant live without my car. so still no one knows wats causing this
so just got my car back from the stealership and they change the whole guage cluster and guess wat the last led still dont work so they want me to bring it back in. i told them about how ppl say its the fuel sender but they wanted to change the whole cluster first. well will see wat they say when i bring it in today again. i dont mind its all under warrenty but only thing sux is i gotta get a rental car and pay for insurance so i lose 9 dollars a day

Did anyone get a fix to this problem yet? I am also having the same problem. I want to find out if there is a fix before I take it into the dealer, I want to guide them to the answer if one is alreayd there.
yea my led came on on its own. but if i fill up fulll tank the last led dont light up but once i hit 300 miles left the led turns on. i didnt get a chance to take to stealer ship second time since its coming on now
I started having the fuel gauge issue with the last, and sometimes second last LED, not lighting up at ~18k miles using mainly 76 gas.
The last LED usually lit back up itself ~24 hours after filling up. After using Chevron, the last LED usually lights back up ~12 hours after filling up... ...so maybe using Chevron gas and/or their fuel cleaner will help resolve the issue... |
My dealer has ordered a new sender unit. However, I'm not certain I want go ahead with it. Often with dealers they can do more damage than good.
I have this issue every once in a while where the last dot in the fuel gauge doesn't light up after filling the car up. If it does happen it's only for the trip from the gas station to where I live, which is pretty much just across the street. The next time I start the car, it's always fine and the light comes on for all the dots.
There is an actual fix for as nissan has updated the sending unit also redesigned the arm with the float, just go to your service dept as there is a TSB on it also, with all the updated part numbers.
I had an issue where my car ran out of fuel but it indicated that I had 150kms to empty and 3 bars left on the guage.
At first I thought I had some catastrophic failure but when I trailered it to the dealer, they put the scanner on right away and it indicated that I was bone dry. I'm waiting for some parts to arrive that is being replaced under warranty. |

I just came back from the dealership and they were unable to locate a TSB although they ordered a new fuel sender. UPDATE: Just added a bottle of Shell V-Power fuel injector cleaner as well as filled up with Chevron Supreme. Fuel gauge now reads full w/ all the LEDs lit up w/ original fuel sender! :) UPDATE 7/22: Dealership replaced both fuel sender units along with O-rings. Fuel gauge had 5 dots upon entering service and now has 3 dots with the odometer remaining constant. Will post further update after fill up! :) UPDATE 7/23 - All LEDs light up after filling up w/ Chevron Supreme w/ Techron! :D |
Just had my fuel sender unit replaced under warrantee. Seems to have fixed the problem, lets see how long this lasts.
Wow. Glad I found this thread. I have run out of gas about 4 times now. My gas gauge tells me I have 3 or 4 dots left and I'll simply go around a turn and the engine just dies. The damned thing tells me I have 50 MILES left. What is that TSB?? I have to get this fixed ASAP.

Apparently we have 2 fuel sending units. Baker Nissan is installing both tomorrow on mine and recalibrating everything.
Mine did that for awhile, but stopped since. However, I notice it takes about $40 to fill up the tank from what appears to be nearly half remaining according to the gauge. With about 1/4 remaining, it took about $48 to fill it up.

Mine has mysteriously been working fine again (knocking on wood as I type this).
I'm guessing fluctuations in gas additives must screw with it. |
Trust me, it will go bad again:(
Still laughing at this thread ... after all those posts.
It's querky...There are times when I fill-up and the lights are all active. On occasion that last light is missing, but when I shut down and restart they are all there.
:werd: |
In my car, the very right dot would not light up. Just got it back from the shop. Here is my diagnosis:
"Found the fuel gauge is reading incorrectly when filled. Performed the fuel gauge operation test and found that all the LEDs are functioning properly. Removed the found level sensor and found the readings are out of spec. Replaced both fuel level sensors and seals. Ok after replacement." I haven't filled it up yet, but I'm hopeful. |
My car is at 12xxx miles and I've been having this same fuel lighting up problems maybe a few thousand miles ago. It's very annoying to me and the fact that a brand new $30k+ car with problems already when the car is very new. I don't know if I'm just going to sit back and let the car rot away with problems.
