I didn’t realize there was a proper way to maintain the battery. How does one maintenance a car battery. I get my oil changes at the dealership every time. |
the battery need to be charged and floated when not in use. especially if your car is a hobby car like mine it needs to be on a battery manager (battery tender) during the week or during hibernation.
my dd (G35C) is also on battery manager on the weekends. my short 22mile round trip commute (where half is bumper to bumper) is not enough to charge the battery. my car is 7.5yrs old and still running factory battery. :p |

weak battery apparently contributes to the failure but not the root cause. :) |
This just happened to me today. On the way to work this morning and I stop to get some gas. No issues. Get back into the car and press start and uh oh, nothing. I tried both keys and a jump, but still nothing. I got a flatbed tow to the dealership and luckily for me, it was RIGHT across the street. Unlucky for me, it turns out it was my steering lock unit malfunctioning and costs $800 bucks for them to order and it won't come in for a week. They have no loner cars available either. I love it.
|
sorry to hear xsaintx. so you locked your car when you stopped in for gas? or left the door unlocked?
im starting to think keeping the doors unlocked doesn't help cause the steering locks anyway when the car is turned off... |
got my car back on tuesday after being towed to dealer.the turn around was one day.they overnighted the part, installed next day. all work covered under warranty.the dealership i have been taking my z is not were i got the car. were i go for service is "mod" friendly. they were the ones that installed my f.i. exhaust. so hats off to fread beans nissan in limerick pa.

^^ sounds great, paigeone! at least your dealer did watever they could to make a bad situation go much much smoother. :)

Add one more Z falure
My 2010 with 7200 miles died in a Wal-Mart lot Friday afternoon. The key emblem lit up and brake pedal stiff and locked in park. Had it hauled to dealer Sat morning. Hope for Mon or Tues fix. At least it is still under warranty.
|
ohhh well, on my first day of Christmas vacation , I have that same problem that you guys have been dealing with !!
FML!!!!!! the Z is waiting for the towing and then process his way to the dealership ! I'm about 3000kms from my warranty to expire ! thats a good timing after all and my steering lock assy is #48700-JF00B the key warning light has been on for a bit over a week now and it is stuck in the Lock position with the steering wheel unlock. |

sorry to hear. let us know your car's build date. So far up to Oct 2009 build has been affected on the 2010's. Quote:
sorry to hear about this as well. thanks for the info megan on the lock assy! |
At the rate these are failing on this forum alone, I hope Nissan would "goodwill" those with problems out of warranty in the future...

it's bad enough nissan used the same bad parts on affected non-GTR cars and did not 'drill deep and wide' on this quality issue. i am 99.99% sure nissan's intelligence is aware of this issue. |
Had this problem a couple weeks ago and had the steering lock replaced under warranty..
I knew what the problem was as soon as the car wouldn't start and showed the key fob symbol on the dash.. |
Well they did a "goodwill" of a whopping $200 towards any service needed on my Nissan. Such ********.
I told the woman on the phone that plenty of us on the forums have had this happen and this is my 3rd Nissan, it is unacceptable that this happened and isn't being covered. My car is only 4000 miles out of warranty and I paid $1200 out of pocket to have it fixed. She went on to say that it was a non-negotiable offer. I said it was ridiculous that they are aware of problem and refuse to actually do an official recall. I stated that I'd like to talk to the person who she talked to about getting me the "good will" payment, she said "He doesn't talk to customers" I was pretty livid, I was able to get his title and an address in Tennessee where their Corporate offices are located. I will probably wind up writing them a letter, but I'm doubting anything useful will come of it. I'll post it later when I get home as it's scribbled down on a sheet of paper. I'll also give everyone here her direct extension, maybe you can at least get 2 free oil changes (whoop-de-doo) |
Cevans that's crazy. I thought Nissan's corporate headquarters is in Torrance, CA? I would write to their public relations.

also try unplugging the unit. the tab is on the top side of the harness. take it off count a few sec and re-plug. do that a few times and try re-start. if your battery charge is low see if you can trickle charge it 30min -1hr too. that could potentially help. but once your car starts get the car checked over cause it will fail again apparently. |

they have it in stock but no ETA date. mean they can't not sell untill nissan release the part!
|

|
they are must be invastigating or hiding somthing!! service at nissan dealer can't even get answer from factory! lot's of people are just waiting for parts!!
|
you should call up courtesy parts tomorrow. i am sure they can ship you the parts they have in-house.

Update on my Z. My second time to dealership the Steering Wheel lock was replaced. Now I have a new IPDM and Steering wheel lock. According to my nice service manager he told me Nissan recommends replacing IPDM first. So round two I got the Steering Wheel lock.
Also this may be wrong because I was half asleep when my service manager was talking to me but he claimed both IPDM/Steering Wheel lock are connected to the same fuse and one of them was shorting/burning? it out and my case Steering Wheel lock. |
forrest- good to hear they finally changed the steering lock on your 2nd visit. :)
|
after 2weeks in nissan service & i got a call from nissan! finally ETA date for my bad steering lock solinoid for jan 17th! can't wait to get my car back.
