Default Car Seat :)

Crazy question, yes I am a family man with a 6 year old still in a regular car seat. Has anyone attempted or is it even possible to install a childrens car seat into a roadster?

We have a SUV but if the wife is working or just a great sunny day out would be nice to slap in a car seat and take him out for a drive. You know train them young

I've done it in emergency situations only. Probably not something to do all the time. I have a coupe though.

Is your 6 year old not ready for a booster seat (>40 lbs)?

I believe there are anchor points. Have a look in the user manual - I'll bet there's some info in there.

No anchor points in the ZR according to the manual. My kids both ride without any issues using the short booster in our ZR, but they are about 42 lbs and 60 lbs.

You'll want to actually check how well the booster you have fits... one of ours works well, the other I don't use in the ZR because the base is too wide and doesn't fit well between the ZR lower seat bolsters.

Yeah, I wouldn't either until s/he is 40lbs. I don't think Coupe or Roadster has the LATCH anchors, but you could fasten it with the seatbelt. The Z seats are more contoured so you have to make sure the child seat will position properly. Of course, make sure the SRS light is on while your child is in the seat, which means the passenger airbag is disarmed. As for the tether strap I've always considered that secondary (optional) and have used a car seat on other vehicles without it at times. Your call though.

Agree with djpathfinder. Make sure they are light enough to have the airbag off. The other potential danger is the shoulder strap in the wrong place/won't secure them. i think that height is perhaps more relevant than just weight. My 6 year old is around 40 lbs. The booster is still a full seat with a guide for the shoulder strap to go over his shoulder.

Legally, if you are going to use a child seat in the front seat of any vehicle with air bags that do not have an OEM disable capability, you must apply to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for approval. Then, you must have the approved airbag disable device installed by an authorized installer. You may find that many dealerships and mechanics avoid installing these as they do not want the liability that is associated with this. At that point, you will have a disable capability via a switch and can disable the airbag for child carseat use.

I would not count on the "are they light enough" method. If they bounce or shift in the seat in a manner that makes the sensor think that they are heavy enough, or if there is a failed sensor, do you really want to risk the life of your child in an accident?
