Wow really good job! I'm very impressed. Looks straight from factory. The paint is right on the money

@jazz: looks like new!

Paint

The finish on my 2009 Black Z looks great. But, I baby the crap out of it. Its never taken in until I either wash it and follow with Megquires Ultimate Detailer or just use the detailer everytime bringing the car in and put under cover. At times i see a swirl and just use a cleaner/wax, then Megquires Quik Wax and then the Ultimate Detailer. Use the best cloths . After 2 years now these don't bother me as if it were new Z anyway but i fully understand.

Beware Nissan ruined my car. Instead of having a couple of spots on the hood & trunk every panel had a flaw. The car was covered in orange peel & swirl marks. I had to lemon law it. They had documents stating that orange peel is normal. I had to prove that the millage of the paint was 15-18 mills when normal is 3-5. The windows didn't seal properly anymore, the roof & deck lid hit when opening or closing the roof, the trunk no longer sealed properly & lots of rattles in the interior. They have to take the car apart to paint then try & get everything back together.

ieee, thats not what i want to hear! still yet to get my car back! i have looked at it a few time...it looks good so far...but who knows after hearing that.

Wondering if I should attempt this. I have a contact at Nissan Corp. and not sure I should even attempt this. The spots look like they are under the clear coat on the hood. Only problem is, I spent $700 plus on a damn clear bra and it would just seem like a pain to get done.

RoadZter 01-01-2012 12:11 PM

So far, my paint has held up but my rays are starting to discolor. I went to the dealer and they said it was the result of "wheel products" which is BS!!! I don't think it's from that reading some of the other threads here. I'm going back tues and printing up some of the stuff in here about the paint and thread about the wheels. The more I read, the more pissed I get. Pretty sad that you spend 40k plus on a car and get a 99$ paint job AND at over 600 bucks for a factory wheel, you'd think the finish would be better. I am going to tear some azzes up on tuesday!!!! buncha BS!!!

they will redo the 3m for you...that is, if they find it was a paint issue.

Yeah I know. I was just venting. They sent pics to nissan so we'll see what they say. I also have a contact number and left a message. I'm cool dude, I'll be very calm and professional when I tell them I will set the dealership on fire.

just kidding........I think.

RoadZter 01-05-2012 10:10 AM

Just a quick follow-up. Nissan is going to send me 4 new rays!

hvae them done in black!

what are they going to do with your car when there is no wheels on it??

also check you rubber! might want to buy new tires while they are being done!

sdfoster91 01-31-2012 08:04 PM

Just got word from the dealer that they will not cover my paint after they inspected it.

I have a black 2010 roadster z (10k miles) and this paint is worse than my car I traded for it (2007 black armada with 65k miles). My last 3 cars over the period of 9 years have been made by nissan and since Nissan wont cover their new crappy paint this z will be my last. Also I will make sure to tell everyone I know not to buy a Nissan because the paint will look like crap after 1 year of light use.

Even when I was at the St. Louis auto show last weekend it was evident that the new nissans had deeper swirl marks than most of the cars at the show.

jazz 02-03-2012 06:30 PM

sorry to hear that...was it the rep that said no or the service department?

RoadZter 02-03-2012 06:58 PM

I think you need to go WAY above the service dept or anyone at the dealer. I had to call nissan directly for the wheels. Even then it was POA. Lot's of emails, lots of VMs. That's sad that with only 10k miles the dealer isn't being more of an advocate for you. Not all dealers are the same. Maybe try another dealer and they may be able to contact someone directly? Just make sure you document what's going on. I've heard some folks got service contracts, etc. Not me though! Just new wheels. Good luck!

RoadZter 02-03-2012 07:04 PM

This pic pretty much tells the story on how crappy the finish was on my wheels. Keep in mind I only had 3k miles at the time! The second dealer that I went to plus a contact that was generously given to me resulted in getting them replaced. Not as bad as having issues with the body but still, never had a car that had rims look like this after only 3k miles!

RoadZter 02-03-2012 08:00 PM

^ See! Guess I should have held out longer!

bigsix 02-04-2012 02:26 PM

What caused the black spots/stains on your Rays wheels?!

service department manager acted like he actually worked for nissan by feeding me lines of bs. He at first tried to tell me the front bumper doesnt match because its a different material. I then pointed out the rear was the same material and it matches.

He then said he talked to the rep and he denied the claim without even looking at the car.

I have since talked to nissan consumer affairs and they are dragging their feet about the situation. I guess they really dont care about my loyalty for the past 8.5 years.

just a warning to all potential buyers... .nissan sucks about backing there product

jazz 02-10-2012 09:11 AM

dude...Nissan Canada did me well...suit up...go in...take charge...be NICE!

rebe945 02-11-2012 08:01 AM

A suggestion

If any of you guys and gals have any wheel or paint scuffs, etc. , ask the dealer who does their touch up paint work and who the wheel guy is. These contractors come to dealers to touch up their cars. I personally have one of each at my becon call.

did you get any new info or have you tryed any more?

rebe945 03-04-2012 08:53 AM

Jazz-Swirl marks

Swirl marks are caused by wiping , waxing a car without removing the tiny particles of dirt first. Swirl marks at a car show are easily explained by the people going around and wiping off the fingerprints and dust/dirt without first cleaning off those tiny bits of dirt with claying or other detialing and cleaning products. Its how the surface is treated and not the paint.

rebe945 03-04-2012 08:54 AM

Swirl marks

Use Adams Swirl remover with their Revive polish, then wax. That will take care of swirls.

Getting my roadster wet sand next week by dealer. Hopefully it would be good and not create more problems

QTMLEAP 04-12-2012 06:37 PM

Wow! I am blown away by these posts about clear coat issues. I have a yellow 2009 with 18k miles that I bought used with 4k, the left front portion of the car has extensive chipping going on. Same thing I’ve read, it bubbles and breaks off. I spoke to the dealer and the first guy said it was road damage...I said BS...the next guy said the car had to have been repainted because the clear coat color is different...also BS. Just goes to show that unless you are willing to post some kind of damaging video on you tube and it goes viral, you’ll just be ignored. Sad!

Sandra Dee 04-13-2012 10:47 AM

update

since my car got repainted and thick coat of clear put on it-have not had one problem with paint. I use Adam's products exclusively.
i went all the way to corporate to get my car repainted-it was a battle. The paint job was just under 5000.
to get the car right-repainting is necessary.

LakeShow 04-13-2012 04:37 PM

Do you have post paint job pictures? Where did they do the repaint exactly?

Result....worst than before...getting repainted the front and back bumper. The Car has been in the shop for week and a half...

I have owned many cars, just purchased, brand new, 2012 touring roadster w/sport,nav, pkg, black. worst paint job I have ever seen. swirls in paint from day one, it looks like they skipped the factory clear coat totally!

:iagree: That's why I skipped black on the Z. The lighter colors arent that bad because they hide a lot of imperfections.

Glad it worked out for you. My situation is heading towards cluster $#@%. It has been in the shop for two weeks going onto the 3rd. They are repainting the front bumper (again) and painting the back now....all this after "wet sanding"

That sucks. What exactly was the issue with your paint?

The original complaint was hard water spots that would not go away, excessive swirl marks, clouding of the bumpers and orange peels on the doors. Their solution was to wet sand the entire car.

At week one, I received a call that the front bumper's paint was too thin that they will needed to repaint. I hesitantly approve. Last week I received a call that it was ready but was told that there are "issues" with the rear bumper. I arrive at the dealership and noticed a poor paint job for the front bumper where dust spots in the clear were visible along with poor masking job; rear bumper has a long strip where buffing has removed the clear and base to the primer thus needing new paint. Although the rest of the car appeared clean from swirl marks and orange peel, I did not really fully inspect it due to the obvious faults.

So at this stage, they are repainting both the front and back. I have yet received any news but expect it to be returned to me this week. This is really unacceptable for a $50K car.
