That is just freakin' cool! I am really glad that everything worked out for you! What dryer are you using? I have been thinking of getting one since last summer. Trying to keep up with two cars, I spend twice as much time drying as I do washing!

some people use an electric leaf blower-no gas ones. Make sure the ground is wet around your car before you blow-ha ha detail school was fun-I was the only girl . I also was the only one with cahones to do the wet sanding. Junkman wet sanded a Viper last weekend that I witnessed-he must have huge ones!!! :eekdance: |
Thank Sandra. I have seen that unit demo'd before. Probably the way I will go too. I have a big shop vac that I use for my SeaDoos that does not ever vacuum dirt, just water. I may give that a try. I know it is at least filtered. Leaf blower would make me a little nervous without filtration.
Good for you. We need more chicks with cahones... wait a minute... that didn't sound right. :ugh2: |
i have same issues with my 2011 roadster...you can only see it whe the light is just right!

Thanks for sharing your story and for the update!

2011 models still have paint bubbles
Just bought a 2011 Red 370Z Touring with Sport Package.
Traded in my 2009 Red 370Z with Sport Package. Got a great deal on both, BTW. One of the reasons I traded was to hopefully get rid of the paint bubble issue the 2009 had. I spent hours checking the car prior to buying. The temperature just hit 95 degrees today and the bubbles are on the 2011 model as well. Sounds from all the posts like the bubbles are an issue on all the colors so it would not have done me any good to go with a different color. It's unfortunate but it appears it's an issue I'll have to live with in order to enjoy the car I love. I will be taking it to the local dealer this summer to see what can be done. FYI, be careful when hand waxing. That put so many scratches on my 2009 I had to have a body shop wax it with an orbital buffer. It looked great but the buffer took flecks of paint off the bumpers in locations where it previously had swirls but wasn't missing any paint. |
Clear coat bubbles
I just started noticing this on my 2011 gun metallic...I don't think it's right that we just have to live with it as if it was a normal thing...I'm planning to call Nissan and will fight this as longs as I have to!

Paint Problems
I have a 2010 370z, Black Cherry and I have the same problems. Round circles in hood and hatch back. The paints is chiping off in the spots. You can see cracks in the circles.
 |
Hey guys.
I just purchased a new holdover '10 T-Roadster about 3 weeks ago. The vehicle is of late '09 production at factory. While detailing it today, I noticed small, very faint brown like dots all over the hood. The dots are brown, almost rust color like. As I inspected it closer I found these markings all over the fenders, q-panels, deck lid, mirror casings, etc. At first I thought it was over spray but I haven't been around anything that was being painted. I began to think it might have been tree sap from somewhere but the vehicle stays covered all day long on ONLY driven on the weekends (not a daily driver). Since I thought it was over spray, I opened the deck lid and checked that area around the seams and found it even under the deck lid. The only time when that area is exposed is when the trunk is opened at the hinge areas. I tried cleaning a small area and it did improve, however, the dot did become more faint, but it's still visible and appears to have bleed into the paint or clear coat application. After opening and reading this thread and seeing everyone's comments about their vehicles, I'm beginning to believe that mine may have suffered the same fate. Although, I found no traces of bubbling, I did find these "dots". I've tried taking photos but you can't see them clearly even with a DSLR with a good lens. Thoughts? |
So yesterday I washed my Z (little over 30 days since bought new) and found a patch of peeling clearcoat on the front bumper. Hard to see in the picture, but it's very obvious when you're looking at it. Going by the dealer today to see how hard it will be to get them to honor their warranty.

I'll post some really good close ups when I get home and get my real camera. Cell phone just can't get the details. |
Brown dots could be rail transport issues (does Nissan use trains?) or something happened on the lot (mud daubbers? tree sap? some other spray)...
Can you try clay? I would probably make the dealer fix it, but its a pain when its your daily driver. |

You are correct. Something with the rail transport and with the vehicle being a holdover for over a year, it just baked in the sun while on the dealers lot for almost an entire year (which didn't seem to help the matter). The dealer did keep my car overnight and their body shop was able to apply the clay bar to the paint surface and it really cleaned up the entire car. The paint really stood out and showed hardly any imperfections. This was only too good to be true though....as of this past Saturday while I am cleaning the car, I began to notice raised clear bubbles/bumps that were very small, in certain areas of the hood (also located on the door today and the rear trunk). Some were separated and some were clustered. I'm beginning to wonder if this may be related to the clear coat issues I have read about previously. |
I just dropped off my Z at the dealer for them to look at the paint. I'm not sure what they'll say, but I told them that I already took it to a couple of body shops and they both said the clear coat is messed up.
I will update later today. |
they will tell you that they need a rep from nissan to come and see it before they will do anything for you!
they told me i need a respray on my car...but the rep needs to sign off on it before the start. |

Mine went A little differently. I took the car down and the service manager/salesman/paint "guy" looked at it. They agreed they needed to fix the front bumper (but never admitted to any touching up of the paint) and agreed to also fix the paint on the roof.
They sent me over to their preferred body shop and the guy is sending them the estimate. Once they have the estimate, they said they would contact Nissan to get the work approved. On a side note, the body shop guy told me the spots on top were from bird droppings. I laughed at that. If a bird crapped on it the day I bought it and I didn't wash it for a month I wouldn't expect this type of paint damage. Also, the other Nissan guy said it was below the clear coat. Who to believe... |
UPDATE: The dealer has approved a repaint on the bumper and to fix the "spots" on my car. I'm somewhat unsure of whether its good or bad to fix "spots" but if I just leave them they'll just get worse, so I'm having them fixed. I'll keep my fingers crossed they don't just make it worse.

UPDATE!!!

Update for all of you on my car. I had the front bumper repainted (there are obvious sanding marks now) but after getting some major bad info on the painter the original dealer was using I stopped them from repainting the rest of the car. I then took it to my local dealer, who also agreed they thought Nissan would cover it and had me take it to their painter. I went back and forth for a month trying to buff out some of the issues after that painter told me it would hurt my value. Now that I've decided I want them to paint it, the service manager says "now, we won't guarantee the paint color will match perfectly" and "Nissan won't blend panels, they'll only paint individual panels". Which P'd me off to no end. He shakes his head like I'm an idiot to repaint the panels (Hood, roof and both rear fenders) but I want to hold them to their friggin warranty. They took pictures today and hopefully I'll hear from them by the end of the week.

also push for $ back as loss of value...id also said to then buy this car back from me!

well the start...looking good!

^^Wow....are you getting the whole thing repainted? That seems like a pain in the butt. But anyways as long as it comes out 100% factory looking, it's fine. My fear is that I may also have to repaint my Gun Metallic.

Wow that's tough. Did you get to choose which body shop or did Nissan put you in a specific body shop? When will it be done?
|
had my pic of 4 shops.
|
It's good Nissan is acting accountable for sh*t paint.
Why cost-cut in the first place, if customers will notice ? |
its not a cost cut issue...new type of paint that is hard to lay. im told?
|
Jazz,
I think I am going to approach Nissan about my red roadster as well. Would you send me details about the whole process as how you got them repaint your car including where you are getting your car painted? Thanks |
The dealer I went to sent my car off last Monday. They sent it to a different body shop than the one they told me they would. Then on Friday I went to pick it up and immediately noticed two spots on the hood where dirt/debris got under the clearcoat. I noticed tons of swirl on the roof. Turns out they just wet sanded and re-cleared that. It's been raining since then so I haven't had a good chance to fully check out their work. The problem is I know nothing of paint, so I'll probably get someone who knows paint to tell me how good or bad of a job they did.
