Magna Car Top Systems Producing Soft-top System for the Nissan 370Z Roadster

AURORA, Ontario, Canada – Magna Car Top Systems, an operating unit of Magna International Inc. and a global leader of open-air roof systems, announced that it has started production of the soft-top convertible system for the Nissan 370Z Roadster, which is currently being sold in the North American market. Production of the roof system is being completed in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.

“Our goal is to accommodate our customer's unique functional requests and provide innovative products and systems that translate into market advantages,” said Gunter Fritz, Vice President, Magna Car Top Systems. “The 370Z Roadster exemplifies performance and beauty in a sports car, and we are very pleased to be a part of the program.”

“Even with the roof closed, the slanting roof line makes the Roadster beautiful,” said Hiroshi Fuji, Senior Manager for Advanced Door/Roof System Engineering Group, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. “It was indeed a technological challenge to fold and store such a long roof into the limited space of a two-door coupe. Were it not for the close collaboration with the engineering team from Magna we could not have realized such an attractive styling in production.”

The new Nissan 370Z Roadster is a dynamic sports car with a balanced combination of performance, style and value, a position Nissan invented with the original 240Z in 1970. The Roadster belongs to the current family of Z vehicles, which also includes the 370Z coupe and NISMO 370Z.

With the convertible top in the closed position, an automatic locking mechanism at the windshield keeps it securely shut without the use of manually operated latches or handles. The top can be raised or lowered in less than 20 seconds using a button in the center console or remote control, and when fully lowered it is concealed beneath a powered, body-color hard tonneau cover.
