Round 2: Lets do this right

Ok so I am suffering some major Z withdrawal after returning my car due to a dispute with my local dealer. I will now be engaging other dealers outside of city/state limits to get what I want.

I am looking for the following car @ $34,500 - Out the door/TTL/All fee's/Gimme the keys

1. 2011 Black 370z - Automatic
2. Less than 20 miles
3. Sports Package
4. Leather/power seats
5. Rearview camera mirror
6. Tinted windows
7. Z emblem license plate cover
8. Z emblem valve stem caps
9. OEM LED Daytime running lights??? (need opinions plz)

I plan to bring a signed check for exactly $34,500 to show them the money is in hand and I am ready to purchase TODAY. The check will also serve as evidence that they are not getting any more money since it will be issued by my credit union. I will make it known that since I will be traveling to visit these dealers that I will NOT return if a deal is not reached.

I come to you mighty 370zforums after many people lauded my previous transaction as poorly planned. I didnt understand the difference between some of the packages, and failed to secure numerous perks that most of you would have asked for. The biggest was spec'ing a sports package without the wheels. As you might have noticed above I have done something similar again, nearly spec'ing a touring package without the sound system. I'm not even sure if the car can be ordered like this, since most of the time they come with default loadouts. I might just have to take what I can get if the car cant be built to my exact specs.

I bought my previous car without coming to you first, this time I will take all advice on my deal BEFORE going to the dealer. Feel free to critisize away. I dont expect every dealer to jump on this offer, but do you think it is a potential winner if I find a dealer low on his volume or whatever motivates them to sell? Do you think I could go even lower? Should I leave out all the misc stuff and just focus on sports+touring package? Hammer away!

Other thoughts and considerations:

1. I am interested in the sports package because I love the 19" rims. Truth be told I could always just buy new rims as there are many attractive styles available, however the RAYS are pretty stylish and I would rather finance them in than pay out of pocket for new ones later. The stock rims leave something to be desired. I'm not a track guy and have no intention of ever racing my car so I dont care about the brakes. In fact I would probably upgrade to perforated brakes in the future just for appearance.

2. I also love the spoiler/illuminated kick plates. Again these are options which are potential addons separately. Should I consider doing this? Or would it just create a laundry list of requests for the dealer that they couldn't fulfill? I'm not sure if they keep all these parts in stock and can just throw them in at any time or what.

3. The same is true for the touring package. I found the cloth seats with manual controls to be a little difficult to tweak to my liking. I have a feeling leather will offer a more comfortable ride and power seats will enable me to frequently adjust seating arrangements for all occasions (cruising vs "spirited" driving).

4. I intend to replace the entire sound system with my own so I dont care what it comes with, thus might it be possible to exclude bose from the purchase price, but still get those other touring options?

As you can tell I want a rather specific build for this car, but I'm not sure if I'm being unreasonable and need to just accept certain packages and finance it in, or tack them on as a series of upgrades as I can afford them. Which direction would you choose?

Okay first off, you cannot find a vehicle with no miles, that is near impossible, if by no miles you mean like 10 or less miles then yea that is possible. Second, some of the specifications you want for the car such as tinted windows, illuminated kick plates, can be added on later. The more specific you get the harder it will be to find the right vehicle for you.Right now you should concentrate on the basics year, model, trim, and other small details that you may want such as the sports rays, spoiler, and leather seats.

According to those specifications I did a little bit of research and found a black 2011 sports+touring for 37,991. Now depending on how well you are able to negotiate you may be able to get the car for how much you are willing to offer. Here is the link to the car listing-->2011 Nissan 370Z Touring, $37,991 - Cars.com

Approach your dealings with an open and reasonable mind, don't expect to get everything you want in your car from your dealer, and remember that most of these things can be added on later. Right now concentrate on getting the basic specs out of your car, and you should be fine. Good luck.

Wow. I think you are asking for a lot. If you are going to make a move like that, the 2012s need to be on the the lot as well to get that kind of deal. Not sure about options and such though. Good luck!

Have there been any updates on the 2012 status? Poking around the forums it looks like either nobody knows, or we all assume the tsunami pushed back deliveries until Q1 of 2012.

5. I'm assuming the best options to strike from my list are the easiest one's to upgrade. I doubt it's easy to replace car seats with power seats, but people throw on a new set of rims and tires in an hour at the shop. So which items should I really try to get fixed with my car, and which should I worry about later?

I haven't gone through your list, I don't know where you are located. If you are willing to wait a few more weeks for the fast approaching winter, you could get negotiate hard for that deal and get it. Winter time, especially the month of December is the best time to snatch the Z at excellent discount. Dealers are usually a lot more willing to push the car off the lot to pad their end-of-year numbers, plus there is no demand then. Best of luck to you.

Yes sir end of the year is the best time to get a good deal, but what your looking for is a bit unrealistic.

If you run that through Edmunds, invioce is $39,100. Dealer has a holdback of roughly $800 so their actual cost is $38,200. They'll sit on a car for a long, long time before losing $4000 - not including your TT&L.

Like what was said in the previoud thread that you made, DO SOME RESEARCH FIRST.

I am doing my research. I'm seeing what sick deals you guys have managed to pull off. Looking at invoice and dealer holdback alone isnt enough. Some people on here have claimed to get a base sports package for like 31k. Thats 3.5k off MSRP. No way invoice + holdback alone accounts for that. There must be other areas of dealer profit which can be attacked if you are aggressive enough. Anyway once I get a better ball park figure and exactly what I should be installing I'll try to come up with some better numbers.

Rui Z 10-06-2011 03:21 PM

INVOICE, not MSRP, on an automatic 2011 base + sport package is $34,000. This number doesn't include TTL. But then you want a touring package (since Nissan does not offer leather seats on base) on top of that which adds another $4500. Throw in all of your other wants and no dealer in the nation will give the car to you for $34,500 OTD. Now if you want just automatic 2011 base + sport, then $34,500 OTD is possible.

FuszNissan 10-06-2011 03:22 PM

You are looking for a Touring Automatic with Sport for 35K out the door with tt&l included...am I getting this right?

Cmike2780 10-06-2011 04:02 PM

OP, I really doubt you'll find that sort of deal "out the door." Hard to believe, but they are in the business to make money. With that offer, they will likely loose money.

You probably know this already, but you can't pick and choose which options you want from the touring or sports package. The easiest way would be to raise your budget a bit more and buy everything up front. Buying a Z without the SP and upgrading everything later on, is going to cost you a lot more in the long run. You can upgrade at your own pace with the parts you want however.

The only way I can think of to get the car you want at that price is to search for a slightly used one. Your basically asking the dealer to throw in the Sports package (or Touring Package) and some accessories for free.

didymus 10-06-2011 04:07 PM

First off you cant get the leather seats without touring package. At least it is very unlikely. Do your research

Davey 10-06-2011 05:13 PM

You can get a touring + sport for around $34.5K but not out the door. You're talking about a couple grand off an already decent price... Maybe $36K OTD.
