Well I think it just sounds like dealer is starting it high (hoping for an idiot to come and just buy it that price). I think if you negotiated you can get it down to 30ish...

I see lots of cars like that. They all want so much that it's laughable. Several years ago I bought a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. It was a stick so it sat on the lot for 1.5 years when I saw it. It was new but had 6,000 miles on it. (I think the dealer used it for errands/lots of test drives, etc) They were trying to sell it to me at MSRP! Like a new model! I was like WTF. It's almost 2 years old! And has 6K on it. They subsiquently dropped the price 10K in the end. ;)

I had my eye on a new 40th anniversary and finally found one around 250 miles away. the dealer said the lowest he can sell it for is around 35K. I told him i can do 32K. would it be worth it to throw in an extra grand?

Anything up to 34K is a good deal IMO. Basically the car is a Touring/Sport with custom color combinations so you should compare pricing on that basis.
