buying a 370 from a private seller? is this a good idea?

If I buy from a dealership (not nissan but a name brand place via trade in), is the warranty transferred automatically or is that a process i have to do?

In this scenario is there anything else i should check before buying from an administration standpoint? Like checking the vin somewhere other than carfax?

So the car isn't new? If it's not new then the warranty started on the date the car was first sold.
