$5k markup in Portland, OR!

While I have received some decent quotes from the guys across the river in Vancouver, I was shocked when I went to the dealership near my home for a test drive. They had a loaded, auto-sports-nav Touring in their lobby for a nearly $5,000 Adjusted Market Value! To be fair, they were treating this baby like the goddess she is, but that's too much. I also nearly walked out when they tried to get me to let them run a credit check to see if I could buy the car.

To be fair, they did give in on the credit check, and went to a LOT of trouble to drive the Z out of the lobby, within an inch of a GTR and the front desk. I was really impressed with the 370 on the test drive, but I never really opened her up as this was her first time being driven.

I haven't seen many reports of big markups so I really wasn't expecting it. I've honestly been very disappointed in the dealerships in the Portland Metro area. Only one bothered to respond and seemed to be texting from his phone and he never gave me a price. The other dealers (maybe 5 in the area?) never even responded. Completely ridiculous in this economic climate.

I think I'll be taking my business up to the 'Couv. The internet manager has been very cordial and quoted me a decent price on a similar Z. If it all works out this will be my first!

Dealing with the same thing across the country in NJ!...I am reading about all these prices for right above Invoice and its depressing haha...Good luck with the search!

I live in Portland Oregon and I've visited every Nissan dealerships in town for 370z except for one in Hillsborough. None of them were willing to sell it below MSRP. I told them I'll wait. At one dealership, I pretty much laughed at him when the guy asked for dealers mark up. I guess car salesmen will always be car salesmen. Even when auto industries are having very tough time selling cars, all the Nissan dealerships in town acted like they're not phased by it. But I understand that most dealership don't have many 370z in their lots.

I know Nissan cars are not known for strong resale value (except for GT-R). Therefor, I'll wait until I can get 370z at or below invoice. I can't justify near $40k for Nissan car even 370z.

Mark-up isn't as bad out here (amazingly)... it's "only" $2.5k. No way I'd pay a mark-up ANYWHERE.

I wouldn't bother with just visiting the dealerships. Traditionally you'll never get as good a price as if you try an internet quote. Try Edmunds quote tool. Works quite well. We also have the car show this weekend.

I did manage to get decent quotes from Alan Webb and Royal Moore.

here in Cali, the markup was 5 grand as well. i was able to bargain and got the touring version for about 34k. real price is like 33,7xx (i forgot the actual cost). but that was out the door and they took care of all the paper work including dmv stuff and license plates.

i believe they wanted something like 36,750 out the door. and i told them i wanted 30,000 and we basically worked our way up from 30k to 34k in the end.

Seconding the recommendation to try to drive one out of the Bay Area. Plenty to be had down here just sitting on the lot, and I know several including Boardwalk are dealing on price (below MSRP). It sure would be a nice weekend drive to start it out. :-)
