For Zero, being from the United States, yes he should buy it in the US and import it as better deals are to be had in the US. But right now it makes more sense for Canadians to buy in Canada. Let's say hypothetically the difference between 2 identical cars was $37000USD and $47000CAD before any taxes. With a straight currency converstion of 1.25 (and the Canadian dollar is getting worse), purchasing it in the US at $37000USD would be approximately $46250CAD. $750 is a very small difference for so much hassle.

Secondly, for Canadians, you have to pay 5% GST when you cross the border, and 0-10% PST (depending on the province) when you register the car (unless you owned the car in the US for at least 1 year). So either way you have to pay tax. Plus the car is made in Japan so you have to pay an extra 6.1% duty if you import it.

That's true that we have to pay taxes when we get the cars back to canada. The 370Z will be used here in the States for unless 2 years. I got 03 350Z that will be going to canada too. The cars will be under canadian citizen who is returning home. I don't know if that will make it different on the taxes.
