Dealers in So Cal won't let me Order a 370Z!!!

I just came back from several dealers around the Los Angeles area and NONE will order me a custom 370Z with the options I want! What gives? All of them said Nissan would not let them do this, at least for awhile...

Has anyone else had this same experience? I wanted to get a White one with Touring and Sport Package, and Persimmon leather.

Oh.... forgot to mention. One dealer explained the situation a little more: he said that although they can "order" one for you...they will not be guaranteed to get it...and they still need a deposit!

I am looking for exact color as yours with 6MT and sport package. My local deal is willing to order one for me but we have not agreed on the price yet. The order would arrive around April if I placed the order this month.

Zissou 01-18-2009 01:00 AM

april seems to be the key to inventory and 'MSRP' pricing; ill be waiting till then to get mine.

Crash 01-18-2009 01:28 AM

I went to Miller Nissan and told them I'm ordering mine because I don't want the Odo to read more than 1 mile when I pick it up. The salesman didn't argue with me at all on that. I figured ordering the Z wouldn't be a problem.

He also didn't say anything about the fact that I said "If I see it has been driven at all, I'm going to walk out on the deal. I don't want salesman, customers, porters, mechanics, or even Jesus himself to take that car out on the road. I don't care what the reasons are, I will not accept the car at all if this is the case. Pull it into the parking spot from the delivery truck and don't touch it until I get here."

By the way, the reason I say this is because I used to work for GM and I know that when ever new cars came in (like the 2005 Z06 when it first came out) the salesman hot-rodded the crap out of the cars before selling them. One of my friends who was a sales man at a dealership said that him and one other salesman when to the GM powertain plant and picked up 2 brand new Z06 Corvettes, and spent the next 10 minutes peeling wheel all the way to the dealership. The salesman at the Nissan dealership didn't deny that it happens there too. So no, I'm not being paranoid. It's no different from underwear IMO. I want to be the first and ONLY person to wear my underwear.

The dealers I am dealing are willing to consider an offer below MSRP. I have to see how much the dealers are willing to let go before placing the order.

Did you order the White/persimmon color? How much the dealer quoted you?

drisko 01-18-2009 03:14 PM

So has anyone actually ordered a 370Z from the factory???

BTW...if you are in the Los Angeles please avoid Universal City Nissan like the devil. I had the worst experience there trying to order mine (he led me to believe I would never be able to order one from the factory). The guy lied about absolutely everything, I'm not even sure if "Greg" was his real name. He said the economy will not affect 370Z sales and they were asking 5 grand over MSRP for the red one they had on the lot!

I haven't ordered yet. I told him I'll be back next month to order mine.

zero 01-18-2009 05:11 PM

My local dealer just ran a search thru the end of March and NONE shown in color combination of my choice, anywhere in the Western Region. The dealer asking price is MSRP and deposit is 5K. The order would be here by April. I have to see if the price can be lowered.

sbkim 01-18-2009 05:21 PM

I also got some push back here in Northern NJ. I am not ready to buy yet mainly b/c I haven't even test driven the car. Obviously dealerships are looking for quick sale and want to move their inventory but hopefully you will find a good honest dealer who can order what YOU want when you want it at a reasonable price (which imho is around invoice).

I second that comment about joy riding. When I special orderd my Vette a number of years ago, the salesman must have drove the $hit out of the car b/c it had 20+ miles at the time of delivery and I had to deal with nasty rear diff whine because of improper break-in straight from the time car went into PDI. As noted earlier, I am not taking delivery unless the car has under 10 miles :)

WShade 01-18-2009 10:50 PM

I had no problems. Placed my order this past Friday with a $250 deposit. They will order the car Feb 1 per their schedule and the vehicle should arrive in 45-60 days.

The Weapon 01-19-2009 01:26 AM

Yeah. I ordered my 370Z about a week ago without any problems other than the usual price haggle.

I got a Black/Persimmon Touring Sport w/ Navi.
as well as all the other extras
Floor Mats, Trunk Mats, Illuminated Kick Plate, and Splash Guards for $37,600 and lifetime maintence.

I put $1000 deposit and now i just wait. Hopefully Mid to Late March I should have mine is what they told me.

Jimmydean 01-19-2009 01:59 AM

What dealer in Tuscon did you use? And salesman too! Just in case they give me any trouble up here in Phoenix......

That's a good price. Do you want to share who you contact information is?

I bought it at Jim Click Nissan but Thoroughbred was the first to offer the lower price. Jim Click only matched and dropped the price to get me to sign right then and there instead of waiting until I met with Thoroughbred the following day.

I was told by a dealership that the new Z will have at least 15-17 miles on the odo from manufacturer testing and driving the car in and out of the port. Anything more than that, it was driven by the dealership.

Hrmmm... I don't know. That sounds strange to me. We've bought lots of new cars from Infiniti and Nissan and never had that experience.

I'll talk to the sales rep at Nissan when I go back next week.

drisko 01-20-2009 04:42 PM

UPDATE: I talked to a new dealer near Santa Barbara, CA and they said they can order it for me. For the most part, they seemed very honest and I will probably order from them if the price is right.

AGAIN, UNIVERSAL CITY NISSAN IS TERRIBLE. DON'T GO THERE.

Crash 01-20-2009 06:46 PM

That's what I figured. I think they're going to tell you that they won't order them to sell you the ones they already got on-hand... A low down BS tactic.

Hey crash not to burst your bubble, I understand that you want your car to read 1 mile on the odometer but that is not likely to ever happen since all cars will come from the factory with around 3-5 miles on it. I work at a Nissan dealer here in louisiana. You do not have an option not to have the techs to not drive the vehicle either  shockin? The reason why they have to, is because there are fuses and relays that have to be installed to the vehicle once it is delivered to the dealer. Called the PDI (pre-delivery-inspection) In which your radio fuses, heater and tire pressure systems are all reseted by the techs, as an example to reset the tire pressure sensor you have to get the car to a steady 40mph cruise before it goes off.. So cut your salesman some slack because if you put a deposit on that car and wait 2-3 months to get it I m pretty sure he wont let anyone touch it, since he doesnt get paid on that deal until the vehicle is delivered.

Enjoy your Z and know that the only person that drove it before was a highly qualified Nissan Technitian:tiphat:

zero 01-21-2009 08:34 PM

I got an offer $1K over the invoice for exact trim and options I want. If I placed the order before this month end it would be arrived by April.

drisko 01-21-2009 08:39 PM

I am probably going to settle for 1K under MSRP. I already got several matching offers for that. Problem is, I don't think Nissan is actually making the PERSIMMON interior yet

One of the dealers is going to call me back tomorrow to see if I can actually order a persimmon interior car.

My dealer said there is one on the East Coast. Are you getting White/persimmon? I am getting it.

Hey DRISKO. Do you want to work together and making a dealer with my local dealer? Check your PM.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll have no choice to accept a few miles on it. But if they don't call me when that car gets off the truck so NOBODY drives it, I'm passing it up. The salesman understands my POV, so I'm sure that he'll let me know. LOL

Although, I have to say that I am glad about the PDI stuff, actually. I like quality control when it's good! I'm coming from 9 years of driving GMs. :(

If you want to order soon, I can ask my dealer to offer us a better deal. Right now I got the offer of 1K over invoice for a special order. The order is expected to arrive by April.

GT-R man 01-22-2009 08:49 AM

:shakes head:I think I spelled Technician wrong on my last post... LoL... Crash I do feel your pain of knowing someone else hot rode your new car :driving:and I hope you didnt take my last post as an argument... Besides the biggest reason Y the dealer techs drive the car is to make sure they can warrant that car themselves and not have to send it back to the factory because of defects.. its almost like passing cash from 1 point to another.. you have to count it b4 passing it to the next person other wise if something is missing you have to pay for it. but hey if your car has more then 15 miles on it and the salesman does not know Y it has that kind of milage after you put a deposit tell him to :gtfo2: and go find you the car you want LoL

Enjoy your new Z post a pic when you get it!

CrownR426 01-22-2009 09:30 AM

They are making the persimmon interior. My local dealer had a blue\persimmon that I test drove last week.

drisko 01-22-2009 03:23 PM

Yes, my dealer just confirmed he will be able to order all the options I wanted. It will take about 90 days to get. I'm going to order it this Saturday. Here is what I'm ordering:

BASE FEATURES
Pearl White
Manual Transmission
Touring Model w/ Persimmon Leather
BASE FEATURES Invoice: $31,919
BASE FEATURES MSRP: $34,460

OTHER OPTIONS INVOICE MSRP
[S01] SPORT PKG (-SPT) $2,602 $3,000
[L92] CARPETED FLOOR MATS (-FLO) $89 $115
[P93] ILLUMINATED KICK PLATE (-IKP) $148 $200
OTHER OPTIONS TOTAL: $2,839 $3,315

TOTAL CONFIGURED INVOICE: $34,758
TOTAL CONFIGURED MSRP: $37,775

I'm getting $1000 off MSRP. I think I could do a little better but this guy was real nice and honest to me, and I would rather give him my business.

I dont blame you. My roomate just bought a new G37 and it only had 4 miles on it when he picked it up. Anyone who says its ok for a car to have over 5 miles and be sold as new is being silly. I will not take a new car home that has over 5 miles on the odo (or theyll have to knock a couple more thousand off the price).

GT-R man 01-23-2009 01:38 PM

Yea a car that has 15 miles on it is a used car :excited: holly crap, I work at a dealership where the closest turn around from the front gate is 1 mile away, since the cars are not being ragged out it usually takes about that long just to get it at proper working conditions after warming it up. So give or take >15 miles on it but come on i would be more skeptical about being a car that only has 4 miles on it for the sake of making sure it was checked out properly. mayb your friend did not get the service he paid for.. have you ever thought of that? :icon14:

frost 01-23-2009 06:20 PM

Id rather take my chances than get a car with miles on it.
