Default Selling 2012, need pricing advice please

I love my car but getting in and out of the car has become more physically difficult (neck problems.) I've decided to sell the car since I hardly drive it. I am not buying another car ...we'll do with one car for awhile.

It is a 2012 sport touring coup with navigation with only 18,500 miles. The car has no mechanical issues and has been well-maintained, especially the paint (no swirls/scratches thanks to Adam's products and Porter-Cable.) Interior is in excellent condition. Front tires have 1000 m on then, rears about 12,000. Michelin PPS, stock size.

It was in an accident in 2013 which is in the VIN database

I need help in setting the price. When the weather clears, I'll wash it and take some pics and in a few days post the car here in the for sale forum.

Here's the dilemma: It has a pretty decent audio system. Completely stealth/integrated with Bose head, it has a spare tire woofer enclosure , Dynaudio fronts with two ARC amps with Audio Control unit. Although I kept the BOSE speakers, I have no desire to restore to stock; I'm not going to part out.

In nearly 50 years of car ownership, I've never sold a car privately. I'm really not looking forward to the process and am tempted to just sell it to CarMax.

Kelly BB has it at trade-in 19.479 (18,445-20,514 range), $21,909 private party. (Very Good Condition)

CarFax (VIN-based) has a trade-in of 19,530, and a private party of $22,060 (Excellent Condition)

What price do you think I should ask for it on this forum?
Where else should I list it? Same price?
Is the CarFax trade-in price roughly the same as what I could get from CarMax?

Any other words of wisdom?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don’t know what you should list this for but I do know that CarMax will bone you and be no where close to what you see as a value on the web

Just sayin’

you might want to try seeing what the cars are selling for in your area. I used KBB and said I was looking for a 2012, pick the options on your car, and then select who is selling, might give you an idea of selling price

Depends how high your tolerance is for stupid. If you sell privately be prepared for stupid questions, stupid comments, stupid offers, just stupid people in general before you finally find a buyer. If you can handle "ill trade you my toyota corolla and my epic dvd collection" then go for it; otherwise sell it to a dealer and think of the couple thousand dollars as payment for your sanity

This is the worst part of selling a car, they will ask you questions that you already answered in the add. But usually that is how your weed out people that will not buy your car from people that will. You make your add, list all details possible, and guy that wants to come to see the car is the one that will probably buy it, not the guy that calls with 1000 questions that you already answered in the add.

Thanks for the responses--

The car also has been sound dampened (complete rear and doors.)

So when I run an ad, do I disclose everything or do I hold back on the audio and dampening as a "throw-in" to help reduce price negotiation?? (Obviously not a strategy that would work well here.)

I'm willing to let the car go for a buyer HERE for $500 less than I would elsewhere. The objective for me is to advertise a price which is fair/good deal for both parties ... I'm not looking to make a killing, just sell the car with a minimum of insanity.

So back to the original question, what should I ask for here??

Thanks-

Go with you gut feel and see what happens..
if you have time and want to wait for the right buyer..
if you need the cash for another car, then it's a different story...
from what you saw on the other car pricing sites, maybe start a bit higher, because of how well you have taken care of the car....
come down to time and whether you want to deal with it...

I sold my Solid Red 2012 7AT with 71k miles and 2 fender benders on record for $13500. I wanted $16k but couldn't get it from private parties, too many low ballers and people acting like it had a salvaged title. So i gave up on that and went to a Nissan dealer, they offered me $12,800 I got tired of the BS and said meet me in the middle at $13500. I think they got a really good deal on that car.

Personally, I would say your car is worth $20k+ but I think you may have a heard time selling it for that much in the current market. Definitely check the market, use CarGurus.com, Cars.com, Autotrader...etc and see where it falls. Like someone said before carmax will not give you a fair price on your car, they offered me $10k for mine.

Agreed with the gentleman above me.

Go on cars.com / autotrader - look up similar cars within 250 mile radius, get an average price on similar cars.

Depending on how fast you want to sell, undercut by about $500.

Be prepared for lots of lowballers, ignore them.

the right buyer will come - unfortunately the Z market and sports car market is saturated, so you may have a harder time selling it right now.

Start it off asking $22K... with $20K as your bottom.

Kelley Blue Book is pretty close to price accuracy not unless you have special edition Z or a classic Z. To get the correct value for your Z you are trying to sell go to a professional vehicle appraiser in your area and they should be able to get you a spot on value for your Z. Also if your Z is in like new or excellent condition your Z would probably do well on eBay Motors. I recommend trying to sell your Z on eBay Motors or Autotrader I had very good experiences selling vehicles in those places. www.kbb.com www.ebaymotors.com www.autotrader.com
