IIRC, I paid ~$14k for my new NA '85 300ZX. I remember wondering if I could put it on my credit card while I waited for funds to transfer

Ah my first car was a Silver 1990 300zx. I miss it dearly. I love the T-Tops and it was a lot of fun to drive. I mean it was so ahead of its time in 1990! To this day, it still looks modern.

In regards to that picture. I think that building is actually a mechanics shop (but i could be wrong)

The Z32 is the best Z, so far, imho. Nissan took the Z32 very seriously when they released it. I read somewhere, that Nissan's inspiration was primarily from the Porsche 928. The interior, dashboard, and overall silhouette do have a resemblance...There were many unprecedented characteristics about it such as: HICAS steering, twin-turbo, 300 hp (big league HP back in '89 that was actually more than the C4 Vette that year)...and a price that took it out of the "cheaper alternative to the Corvette, but about the same as a Stang or Camaro" category thereby putting it in the same class as the Vette C4. Plus, it spurred the other Japanese makers to release their twin-turbo machines FD3S, 3000/Stealth VR4, MKIV Supra, MR2 turbo, NSX, etc. It was the heyday of Japanese supercars then.

I bought a Z32 NA back in '04, but the engine was shot because when you got on it, it was as slow as my Accord. It had about 120K miles on it. I only bought it for $2,500 and I was gonna do the VG30DETT swap. But those swaps were kinda "if'y" back then and I didn't want to have a car lying around for a year or longer in my garage. I ended up selling it for what I bought it for after only owning it for a couple months.

Wiki confirmed. i remembered it seemed like too much.

Quote:
The 300ZX was doomed to the same fate of many Japanese sports cars of the time. The mid-1990s trend toward SUVs and the rising Yen/Dollar ratio were both influential in ending North American 300ZX sales in 1996 at over 80,000 units sold (production for other markets continued until 2000). In 1989 the 300ZX was priced at about $30,000, but in its final year this price had increased to around $50,000. This left many people questioning its value, and despite a final Commemorative Edition for the final 300 units shipped to America (complete with decals and certificates of authenticity), the Z-Car was on hiatus.

Ah nostalgia "Just as they about to catch me the twin turbos kick in!"

Nice garage shot OP. That's a lot of Z's. We should never try to get an explanation but rather understand that there was so much love for the Z. Just never could get enough of it eh.

Reminded me of my brother's 1992 TT300ZX TTop and it was white. Sad news is it was flattened by his apartment during the Northridge quake two years later. Pretty much inspired me to get one someday..........wow 20 years after.

My question is would the general public say the same about the Z34 20 to 30 years from now? Think about it.....

Not much difference with our Z34's when Nissan was gunning for the Cayman's.

Great collection and a true classic.

That said, too expensive and plagued with reliability issues as I recall -- it killed the Z until the 350 came out.

I'm happy with the current direction the Z has taken (although I was never a huge fan of the last gen...). Here's to hoping Nissan keeps the Z fast, fun, nimble, and affordable.
