What if you put one of those anti glare sheets cut out to fit the gauge area? My Apple MacBook came with a glossy screen that is completely unreadable in direct sun but then I purchased an anti glare film and now it is just fine in direct sunlight, well just my 2 cents as far a a temporary fix plus the film is barely noticeable.
