When I first did a test drive in a 350z the salesman told me they were being especially careful because a customer at their branch in the next town had taken a Z out on a test drive and driven it off the road and into a ditch.

Now, I wonder if they told the person who eventually bought that car about the damage it had sustained? No prizes for guessing the right answer.

Don't buy an ex-demo car.

edit - and that video..... Beavis & Butthead Go for a Ride!

edit2 - People or no people, I don't think he'd do ANY drifting with VDC ON!!!! Duhhhh.

A while back I went to a local Nissan dealer to test drive a 350. I had intentions to buy one down the line but certainly wasn't going to do it that day. I told the salesman that and without skipping a beat told me "come back when you're ready to buy." Me: "are you serious?" him: "yeah. We don't do test drives unless we know you're serious. Nobody wants to buy a new Z with high miles."

While it pissed me off at the time, it kinda of makes me feel better to know they do some screening. Not enough apparently though...

This is exactly what I was told at the dealer where I eventually bought mine. When I took delivery, I knew that except for about 5 of the miles recorded on the odometer, the rest had been racked up by me during a test drive. BTW, I test drove another dealer's "demo" before I bought mine. Drove it like I stole it...:roflpuke2:

You dont buy the car you test drive and theres usually a couple demo cars the f*ck with anyways...I wouldnt let that sully your thoughts from buying off the lot.

I floored the 350 on the test drive I took...but didnt buy that one.

I never test drove my Zs. Not even the new 370Z. I exactly know what these cars are capable of ;).

ssqpolo 03-10-2009 08:22 PM

how are his gauges blue? wait. are mine? lol.
on topic: when u go for a test drive, you will push the car to see what it can do. I did it, not in the one i bought lol, sorry, but ya its true. I wanted to know if it was worth trading my 350

Anatoray 03-10-2009 10:56 PM

His guages are actually white. The angle of the camera is what's causing it to look blue, and if you watch, when he leans to the left sometimes they turn white, and all of the street lights outside look blueish as well.

hehe i got mine off the lot, there was only 5 miles on them hopefully people didn't test drive the **** out of it.

Don't know if Nissan dealers offer it... But they should have a DME (over rev) report like Porsche etc...

buying off the lot isnt so bad.....it's just the demo car you should not buy.

Good luck as your Z will be handled by several drivers getting it out of port, onto transport, and car-jockeyed in several places to and fro before it gets to you!

New cars get beaten plenty before they even get delivered.

I, personally, would not buy a car i cannot drive. (i also use good judgement on the test drive too).

Only 5 miles? I bet it didn't even leave the lot, except with you.

And once again, I would rather take the car upon delivery, then have all of what you mentioned happen, then have the car driven by random people at the lot.

I'm not stupid, and I know there is no possible way to get the car with zero miles; I'm simply saying I want the lesser of two evils.

Have you guys ever seen the QC process at Nissan? If it's comparable to what Honda does, you may find yourself being a little more lenient lol. My friend's dad is part of the QC team at the Honda plant in Columbus. I got to see part of the process and all I have to say is OH. MY. GOD.

Although this is slightly off topic, can you tell us more?
