Racing stripes?

Has any1 thought about putting racing stripes on their 370z? If i was going to do it i would do them in a flat black overlay on my black car. What do uyou guys think? and if you have any pics feel free to post them!

SOLISIMO 12-10-2009 03:21 PM

Leave racing stripes to mustangs and challengers :)

Flat black over black? what's the point then if you can only see them from certain angles? Not worth the hassle IMO

spearfish25 12-10-2009 04:46 PM

I might consider something unconventional like a pair of strips off the midline like the Rossiion Q1 in the latest R&T. However, stripes lend themselves best to wide, low sports cars or muscle cars.

Meh

Horseface 12-10-2009 06:08 PM

I think stripes are best left to square bricky looking cars as it adds a little interest by breaking the flat surface up a little. The well-considered lines of the Z would be compromised with such an addition.

austex 12-10-2009 07:14 PM

I saw a cayman the other day that was black with flat black stripes. They weren't centered but were off to the driver's side and ran along the bumper, up the hood, on the top and then down the rear end. looked pretty sharp. Had some of the OZ ultraleggaras in black.

NYBladeZ 12-10-2009 07:27 PM

lamborghini balboni has racing stripes so it's not exclusive to domestic cars

I disagree.

I had the same idea. I was actually going to buy a used 370z to get cheaper payments. It was that Bright Blue color which i didnt like. But I asked the dealer, if you put a racing strip on it, i would buy it. They said they would! [still didn't buy it, bought new one instead]

I think if you didn't do the FAT Center strip then you would avoid being the muscle car-ish type. Maybe 2 thin strips that curve with the hood and roof contours?

Maybe someone could get a good pic of a Black or Blue Z from the front or back, then photoshop the thin strips on there? Worth seening anyway before we dog it.

j.arnaldo 12-12-2009 10:11 AM

In general, racing stripes look good in very few cars. I can't envision a beauty such as a Z with those. Just my opinion, dude.

FuszNissan 12-12-2009 10:18 AM

I think maybe if they were offset to the side and not down the middle , it may look good.

cow 12-12-2009 10:19 AM

Do it. I think it would look great.

I have Grand Sport stripes on my 350Z-- it's different & I like it.

imag 12-12-2009 10:23 AM

Won't work with the hood lines at all, IMHO.

I didn't see a picture in your album with the stripes. Can you upload one for us to see? or Just P.M me because I would like to see it.

cow 12-12-2009 11:19 AM

Only picture I have currently (they've been on for about three weeks)-- I was planning to do a photoshoot with a friend for her photography class, but the weather is awful.

I'd been considering doing GS stripes & figured I could show I'm a Saints fan without having to put a bumper sticker.

Darkstar87695 12-12-2009 01:17 PM

Yah i agree, i dont think i would like the fat stripe down the middle but maybe an unconventional set would look nice.

Jordan777er 12-12-2009 02:05 PM

I like the type Cow has. Its different, but not over the top.

On a side note, Cow, how have I never seen your Z around? I'm pretty sure you're the only Z in town with stripes like that.

cow 12-12-2009 03:29 PM

Not sure. I'm definitely the only one. I live in those new apartments off Clyde Fant. Do say hi if you see me.

Grand Sport stripes were used on older race cars for teams who had multiple cars in the same race. Since their paint jobs were the same, the stripes differentiated which car was being driven by whom. I put them on my car as sort of an homage to the Brock Racing Enterprises Z & as a way to rep my team.

I agree that the lines
in the hood would hinder
the look. I like to have a
wide stripe. I think thin
stripes don't look as good.

Here is something quick
in Photoshop.

SophiaZ 12-12-2009 06:46 PM

Reminds me of a Viper with the blue and white. Not a bad thing...but this is a Z! Do thin lines matching the shape of the hood and roof....but not white

Thanks for doing that. I need to play around with my photoshop. Haven't used in a while.
Can someone put some thin curvy strips?

Offset racing stripes look pretty cool on this one, breaks up the solid colors a bit.

PS. I like this car...bet its a blast to drive, 0-60 in 3.2.

PapoZalsa 01-08-2010 09:08 PM

Racing Stripes on a Z....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MastaRip 01-08-2010 11:28 PM

Everything that was needed to be said has been said.

IMHO they will look horrible. And you will eventually just take them off.

Safe yourself the hassle :)
