Sounds like you had fun! Two thoughts. First, the 18" tires have greater sidewall depth and different brand/type of tires. So you might expect a better ride. But even more likely is that the sport package you drove had over-inflated tires. A lot of Z's have been coming off the boat with too-high tire inflation.
IMHO, the suspension seems pretty well calibrated to provide a firm-but-not-harsh ride. But not when the tires are too hard!! Your observation interests me though, and I have a unique opportunity to test it for myself. I just picked up an extra set of 18" wheels with stock tires, which I will soon replace with snow tires for the winter. But right now, my car has the 19" Rays wheels on it. But I'm interested in comparing the ride on the 18"ers. So I'll put them on & give it a whirl next week and report back on what I find out. |
