fair enough... which is why i got my car. me n my gf. and then the hookers in the trunk. or if she's bad toss her in the trunk too.

plus this is at the cusp of an 'entry' level sports car (a tad expensive IMHO) but it's still reasonable used.

i took my grandfather for a spin... i only rev'd to 5.5k (about 75-80%throttle) and i may have given him a mild heart attack lol

I had to give my 95 year old dad a ride in the Z for a doctor appointment. I warned him it might be a ride a little rough and be kind of noisy. He said he really enjoyed it and thought the car was nice and quiet. You guessed it...he is almost totally deaf. It was funny too when he asked why I shifted so often. He couldn't believe I used every gear. He said in the old days he just used one or two and reverse.

The FR-S is nothing like a Mustang, and while I've not driven newer Mazda, I've driven older Miatas and it's definitely far from an FR-S. Truly, they're incredibly fun vehicles and a true sports car by my definition. 50/50 weight distribution, incredibly low-slung tight seats (think Ferrari 318 with near Recaro quality support), all equpiment is right where you want it, and everything necessary to complete control is exactly where it should be including an excellent shift gate. I strongly suggest pulling your Z into a dealership, pretending as though you're interested in trading, and just giving one a go - I promise you'll have fun and may even wind up getting one as a personal DD.

As far as the appearance of the Z goes...yeah...I took my fiancee in to the local Nissan dealership to look at a GT-R and she didn't get it at all... "I just like the way the Z looks a lot more"...and I couldn't agree more. For those who don't know Z's (apparently 95% of the population now) it looks like an exotic, apparently.

Hell....the grandkids are half the reason I bought my Z. The thought of them in the back of a Maxima kicking the front seatbacks was killing me. No rear seats, no grandkids kicking the seatbacks. No problem.

A little off-topic, but the issue of power+speed keeps coming up. I frequently put this in perspective by thinking of the classic muscle car heroes...Hemis, 427s, etc... I test drove the new Murano the other day and for Christsakes it's 0-60 is equivalent with those legends...while it might mean a lot today...years from now the Z is going to stand out from all of these cars, not because of its power/speed, but because of it's uniqueness

:rofl2:Uhhhh...Cuz its a cost cutted POS! U have to install an oil cooler to drive it like a sports car. U have to upgrade the OEM CSC to a metal unit. U have to upgrade the clutch/brake hydraulic fluid to DOT 4 to keep it from boiling! U have to install a real rear LSD if u wanna put the power down...LOL! I quite like my car. Keep looking for that perfect car. It doesn't exist, even Porsche owners complain. Example: 240Z. It wasn't remotely close to perfect in its day, and unless you own one, it takes a stretch to think of what was wrong with it. 25-30 years down the road, the same will be true. To people with their bitches and gripes, I say, stop thinking negatively and just enjoy the damn thing while you have it. Your grandkids are going to ask why you got rid of it anyways and call you a fool.

My guess looking at the list is

1) American Muscle Head Muscle Car Lovers. (AMMCL) <- just made that up haha
2) Luxury car owners that haven't had a Z yet, but if they did would change in a heartbeat and regret purchasing a german car! Just like me!!! :D

GeauxTigers1 03-13-2015 01:50 PM

Any list that consists of the v6 mustang and the FRS being ahead of the Z does not apply to me.

Also, this survey is a lot like the movie critics. A bunch of retired people making decisions for the "whole" crowd. Of course the corvette is highest on the list, it's an absolute dream car for people in their 50s on up. Absolutely it's a nice car, but seriously the mass majority of people I see driving them are older. Then you go down the list and it makes even more sense, Porsche, mustang, camaro etc etc. all cars with a softer right or more space, or more power. Survey people/age range the Z is actually meant for and you'd see much higher numbers.

Also, owned a 350, 09-370, and now my 15 Nismo :) so Ya I'd buy again.

MagmaRed370z 03-13-2015 02:56 PM

I really enjoy my 370z. I am very attached to Z cars. I've had the 300zx the 350z and now the 370z so I would definitely buy the next one again.

I had a 2005 350Z and now a 2012 NISMO. Look is highly subjective but I don't like the styling of the non-NISMO 370Z and am not crazy about the 2015 NISMO either. I've always been a Z fan but won't buy another one until they can fix the fuel starvation issue. What kind of a sports car that can't make right turns without choking on itself. Maybe Nissan can enter the Z into NASCAR next year...

Zoren 370 03-15-2015 01:39 AM

^ I certainly doubt if Nissan will fix that fuel starvation issue. I say therefore your Nismo would definitely your lastZ.

What issue is this? This is the first I've heard and have a feeling it's being over exaggerated a bit. What would turning right have to do with it? Can think of a few times I've gunned it to make the back end come out from behind me making a right turn and have never noticed anything.

i believe you have to be low on fuel... 4 dots or lower i think.

Have you seen the color combinations you can order a Juke in? Makes me jealous.

My experience yesterday supports your claim. Went to the Cleveland Auto Show expecting to see a Z, whether it be a Nismo or 370 sport tech.

They had Millionaire's Row, with Rolls Royce, Bentley, etc. and Maserati had representation with four cars. Multiple Mustangs, Challengers, Camaros, Evo, Toyobarus and a variety of BMWs. Alpha Romeo, Porsche...well you get my point.

Not one Z car. Not even a GTR. I asked the Nissan rep what they were thinking. Nissan's flagship sports car and its little brother don't have a place, but there are 3 Muranos, 3 Altimas, Rogues and every other model out the backside?

I definitely agree with you, advertising (or lack of) has some part in the Z's perception among owners and potential buyers.

I was at a new car show this weekend and I can honestly say the 370Z was the most sexy and handsome car there. Everyone loved it, taking pictures and getting inside. That's when reality hits, it's a two seater, not much utility other than being a sexy fast car.

Bingo! Being a 2 seater is a negative for most people. But the car is fantastic.

jpkirk 03-18-2015 03:30 PM

The thing is ... the Z is not meant to be practical. It is a 2 seat joy ride meant for those who are willing to forgo hyper luxury. When it was released, it was very competitive. Now it is, compared to it's 'murican competition, under powered. So what, still a great car.

BTW, Car and Driver just did a prelim on the Q60. I think we may see a twin turbo 3 liter in the next Z. They say the engine is worth 400 HP. Speculation.

ayrton88 03-18-2015 04:39 PM

The HP we have now is plenty...make the car lighter. I'd rather see them go to a smaller turbo 4 and put the car on a diet.

Bshields22 03-18-2015 06:05 PM

I don't know about everyone else, but 95% of the time when I see someone drive a 350 or 370, its is almost ALWAYS some old guy or old woman. Maybe the age group among the sampling really speaks to the older crowd and they would now prefer a slightly roomier or more comfortable ride. I don;t know if we will ever know why it is ranked so low. IMO i think it is rather shocking. I am on my 2nd 370z and i still cant get enough

Davey 03-18-2015 07:18 PM

I don't really know what's not to be satisfied with.

Maybe people wouldn't buy another because they found that it didn't hold their dog and a week's worth of luggage and camping gear and their 2 kids?

OMG Mustang and Camaro are faster?

But I'm pretty satisfied with the car. I have tried a few others, and I always come back to the Z.

While I agree with you, I hope we're both wrong since I'm a long time fan of the Z car, particularly the 300ZX.

I get fuel starvation 2 dots down at NOLA MSP, roughly after two laps from a full tank start, from turn 5 on (2.75 mile config); although non-issue at Barber MSP. The car is great but not being able to enjoy the full session is highly annoying.

RN SHARK 03-18-2015 10:26 PM

I got a little fuel hiccup (turn 2) only 2 dots down at big Willow Springs. Had to get out of the throttle. Killed my lap times. I'm sick of the fuel issue. Time to get that anti-fuel starve pump.

njobe89 03-19-2015 05:53 AM

i can see stuff like that being a big reason as to why people wouldn't get another Z. from the CSC failures to the fuel starvation, nissan is aware of these, but yet do nothing to fix them. that's not taking care of your customer.

Davey 03-19-2015 06:01 AM

Unfortunately for a few, I don't really think the fuel starvation issue is an issue for the average driver, and if you're racing the car then it's just one more thing in an already fairly long list of preparation the car needs.

njobe89 03-19-2015 06:03 AM

i know i read somewhere that the fuel starvation issue was affecting some people when they were low on fuel. i think it said that if 4 dots or below and they made a sharp turn it would shut off.

That is true. I guess some drivers might experience it on the right off-ramp with a low tank.

I usually refill at around half a tank of gas but I've run it down to a few dots above a quarter of a tank with no issues on any of the ramps I took at reasonable (but fast) speeds.

If/when I race the car - real air to oil cooler, brake ducts, pads, brake fluid, CSC and the surge tank would get it working pretty well. Oh and a real mechanical LSD. That's not bad for what is arguably a $32K car.

i usually don't let get under 4 dots and i haven't had any problems yet (knock on wood) lol.

it's not bad but considering the nismo is 40k and they didn't even fix the issue there, it sort of becomes a bad trait. they should offer at least free installation for the after market CSC or fuel pump.

RicerX 03-19-2015 08:30 AM

When you put things into perspective - the fuel starvation and the CSC issues are fairly minimal problems in the grand scheme of things. Both can be rectified with aftermarket parts if you're serious enough about fixing the issue. No car is perfect.

At least your airbags aren't exploding in your face or your start buttons setting the car on fire, or the car accelerating on its own on the interstate or in the garage.

I mean... everyone's grenaded a transmission due to a launch feature the car has, right?

I have never owned a car that didn't have some sort of quirk to it, and I never will. It's knowing what the quirks could possibly be, determining if it's the proper lesser of evils for your expectations, and getting into bed with them comfortably. Kind of like marriage.
