If I'm not mistaken, it should be just a keyless entry unless you had the dealer put in the alarm system.

aftermarket would suit better since you can add
- digital tilt sensor, when some asshat jacks up your car and tries to take your wheels, the alarm goes off
-motion sensor for the interior if you have a convertible and leave the top down when parking somewhere.
-shock sensors so when someone hits the car

If you get a 2way alarm system, your pager will beep or vibrate letting you know the alarm has gone off or something triggered

I paid for the karr system when I bought it. Fuggin sucks don't get it. Just go aftermarket. If you're just worried about someone stealing it, the car already has an imobilizer it's near impossible to steal these cars. Stereo and stuff can be claimed on insurance.

This is what I wanted it here. Some input on "how good" the keyless entry and the imobilizer are. Thanks for your opinion MB.

Having an imobilizer doesn't mean crap. There's been cases where people have still turned the car on. The only make that hasn't been reported yet is bmw due to their high bit encryption.

If they are pro's they will take it. Then again what would PRO's want with a Z? when they can get a new suv or something more valuable.

it is a basic alarm. it protects the door, hood and hatch. No motion sensor.

Or if you can add a tilt sensor to the oem alarm, but not sure if that is possible.

Nissan has in-house alarm upgrades.

Depends on which one. The KARR system you don't but I'm not sure about the viper or other high end systems. I would assume the 2 way systems do, but the one way systems they probably use the OEM fob.

It's most likely possible if you have a wiring diagram. On my bmw I added a shock and motion sensors by tying into a door sensor switch via diodes and relays.

Yeap... I think the sensor probably just put out a negative signal when tripped. So it can be wired to one of the protected points like the hood etc.

I am sure some smart electrical engineers here will figure it out soon.

Here's the best security you can have, in order of effectiveness:

1) Good insurance policy with full coverage.
2) Attached garage. A dog helps too.
3) Don't park in $hit areas.

If a pro wants your car there's not much you're gonna do about it.

Looking at SEC-126 of the 2009 FSM, the doors have switches that sink a BCM pin to ground when the door is closed. If I read things right (SEC-21), opening the door will trigger an alarm. Put your tilt switch in series with one of the door switches so that the tilt switch opens when tilted. The hood switch circuit will probably work the same way but I didn't see it in the wiring diagram.
