I had baaad experience modding a 135i Turbo ed engine, heard bearing clearance problems on v8's. Stock they can hold, but modding will make it fall apart.

bmw has great engineering, never driven a 6mt m series before but the other manual transmission cars i've driven the bmw 6mt is much better than the z's. Also keep in mind the gas will be more expensive on the m3 than the Z, maybe insurance as well, and like ppl have mentioned maintenance is pretty expensive on a bmw even if nothing brakes down, i would go with the z since i love the fact that it is not as common as a bmw and it has good performance

For that coin instead of used M3, I would say new BMW 4 series coupe.

I'd go with the m3... my friends owns one and it's way more fun to drive then my Z. someone mentioned gas, and we get about the same gas mileage.. he usually get 18mpg and i get about 20mpg with my Z. As far as maintenance, it isn't cheap. few months back he had a oil change and had to get break oil changed or something and it was almost $800, but keep in mind that he usually changes his oil once a year. Where as with me in the Z i change it every 2-3 months so in the end it's comes out to be the same thing. Also, he beats on his car every time he drives it and the car has yet to show any sign of breaking down. If i had the money i'd definitely go with the M3.
